Thread: WTF...Gas in vacuum hoses

hmmm, I'm not sure a pintle cap missing would be the total cause. Maybe the injector is messed up but I have STI injectors w/no pintle caps on anything and I don't have gas in my lines or issues.

In other words, I think the pintle cap missing is a sign of a larger issue, not thee issue.

Well from the looks of that picture it appears the o-ring is missing as well. Which yeah would cause serious flooding. You really must have flooded the crap out of the intake manifold to get gas throughout the vac lines. It had to of been running like absolute crap surprised you didnt hydrolock the motor with that much fuel going in.

I can gurantee the pintle gap is gone and disintegrated through the motor. Nothing to worry about no point in even taking the intake manifold off. Your not gonna find it. Same goes with the o-ring. You can run the injectors without the pintle caps but they also help keep the o-ring in place. Although all the injectors ive ran without pintle caps ive never had the o-ring blow out either. O-ring was probably getting dried up. Nice fresh o-rings will hold in place even without the pintle cap.

Intakes off. The head ports for cylinders 2 and 3 are filled to the rim with gas. As was the intake. Took out the plugs and all 4 cylinders are soaked. Everything looks good as afar as gaskets and such. I agree that the pintle cap itself shouldn't cause this, i'm guessing more than just the cap is missing. I'm not in a rush to remove one of the other caps so i can compare them. I'm thinking of hooking up the fuel rail and seeing if the injector is just spitting out fuel.

I put new o-rings on the injectors 2 weeks ago. i'm gonna go look at the rail and see if the o-ring is there.

I'm thinking this might have been the problem. The motor didn't lock up on me when it died Ashton. But when i tried to restart it the starter spun for about 3 seconds. Then stopped. When i tried it again the starter started spinning like crazy. I feared once i realized what happened that i locked the motor. But it didn't lock when it died. I coasted to a stop in gear. And like i said it did crank over. So........

That's the most extreme case of flooding from an injector o-ring I've ever heard of.
You'll be lucky if you didn't hydro-lock the engine.
Also, change that oil ASAP!

yep, pretty extreme case right there. Your lucky. Pull the plugs. Put a towel over the valve cover and crank the motor over without the plugs in there and shoot the fuel out of the cylinders. You didnt install the injectors correctly then if they were new o-rings. It probably ripped when you installed them. You have to be sure to lube the o-rings good when you put the injectors in.

When installing them dont push them down straight in. Use a twisting back and forth motion while applying a slight pressure until they full seat. Again make sure to lube the o-rings. I usually just use a lot of spit and never had any problems with o-rings leaking, cracking, splitting, tearing or falling out with no pintle cap on there.

Do it right once and be done.

Oh i put them in like you said to. Used a little silicone spray lube and apply gentle pressure with a channel lock turning back and forth as i go. Not the first time ive done them.

I'm gonna manually turn over the motor tomorrow to make sure it isn't seized. Then, provided i can get the starter to work, ill crank it to blow out the gas in the cylinders.

Yep. Planning on it. Took the oil cap off and got knocked over by the smell of gas. Then again the entire engine wreaks. When i undid the vacuum lines that come off the top of the intake and go to the pcv valve about 1/4 cup of gas came out of them. I can only imagine how much is actually in the crankcase.

I had exactly the same problem about a month ago. Pintle cap came off and lower oring went with it. I replaced the injector because the lower oring looked like it would come out again without the cap under pressure. I also drained my oil removed and cleaned the pan and reinstalled. My fuel system is working well now. Now if I fix all my boost leaks maybe it will run like it should.
