Maybe some companies can't compete with the price, availability, and strength of the stock bolts. I put a hold on my new arp studs and I will continue the hiatus on the build until this is resolved. Though I have not had any issues with my arp bolts, the engine will see a healthy bump in power when it goes back together!

I'm eagerly awaiting the response from the ARP tech.

As a side note, I recall reading that thread depths deeper than the diameter of the shank are useless, as no tension is applied to the later threads. I never believed it, but I'll try to find it.

Here it is:

Thread Engagement Issue

"When a bolt is fully engaged into a nut or when a screw has a depth of engagement at least equal to the diameter of the screw, the thread engagement is adequae [sic]. Special situations arise when the bolt is not fully engaged into the nut or when the screw is engaged into a much weaker material. Sufficient design margin against failure by thread stripping should be provided."

It seems to just be a rule of thumb, and doesn't even hold up when the receiving material is of lesser strength than the bolt (which is the case here). Nevermind...

What about metallurgy? (yes, I read the list Fro20 was kind enough to post for us; back there).

?Maybe they were all getting ripped of by sub-manufacturers?

Quality is the issue and we have a right to demand better quality, especially if we are paying good money for these parts.

Well. I got the new studs. they look the same as the old ones. But I will use them anyway. My machine shop buddy says that he has seen similare designs on other alum blocks and seen no problems with head lift even on 12:1 compression and 250 shot of nitrous.

What about the cosworths?? I know they are making a new design, but, is the old design as bad as the ARP design...?

Edit, I saw also they have 2 sizes, both at the same price:

Jun standard size 11x1.5
JUN racing 12x1.5

JUN racing 12x1.5




12x1.5 are for gtir or any sr20de/t that wants to largen its head bolts.

11x1.5 are regular sr20 size.
