Well whatever floats your boat, just an opinion

12mm studs are the STOCK size the GTI-R uses, I CAN'T USE 11mm studs because they are too small!

Understand now????

keep in mind this was a rwd block. I am unsure is the are different to the fwd, or even if there is a difference between de or ve. However i assume they are all the same.

the holes in the block all vary, from around 82mm up to 91 or something, anyway they are all different. However they all have the same amount of threads, so each hole has 45mm of thread. On the oem bolts most the threads are not actually used.

Now the arp's i have are the new tensile ones. The threaded section Measures in at 30mm. So there is 15mm of unused block thread.

So the extent of the difference from the pictures posted means jack, as the other studs can have double the threads but only 45mm will be used which is 15mm more than the arp's that i measured. If anyone has different measurements for the arp's i would love to see them.

So from this i have concluded that the arp's are better than standard, but not quite as good as the greedy or tomei studs. But for the cash of those i would rather 1/2 inches.

Well I put in the washer and dropped in an OEM bolt into a spare head and there is about 80mm of thread sticking out, vs 35 mm for the ARP.

Bigtoe got ARP to admit that they used the wrong drawings when designing the SR20 bolt, they assumed the bolt dropped down into the waterjacket.

Also ARP 208-4303 has much too much length to fit an SR20 Lowport head.

^With that being said, what is everybody using besides OEM? Greddy? I know they went out of business so they will be hard to find.

yep, for my full build im using the Golden Eagle head studs, They are rated to over 1000 hp on honda motors with no problems, i dont see why they wouldnt do just as good on ours.

Here is what info i have. The head guy at AEBS has already told us that the B16 head studs were being used for the SR20 with no problems, Thread design, pitch and bottom stud length is identical to the SR20, the only difference is the top threads are about 1/2" longer than the normal SR20 studs. There is no reprocusion to this. The only thing you need is deep 12pt 12mm socket to tighten them,

Trust me i will have plenty of pics of the build and ill show you how they fit before and after the head is installed. An excellent alternative to using anything else, I got them for 116.00 shipped to my door.

^We have similar goals. I may be doing this as well. You have a link to that price? Also do you plan on running the VE oil pump and do you think it is really necessary? Did you find out anything else about the hydro lifters? I think what snickers said about them only making the new style which are on the RR SR20's seem right. If that is the case, I wil be getting some of those as well.

yep and already got a set of them from a forum member, check them out on ebay, there are tons of them. B16A vtec head studs. Golden eagle. And i was gonna run the VE oil pump but greg doesnt have any more in stock and there is no more in the country that he can get ahold of right now. So he has to wait on shipments. So im running the GTI-R oil pump which is basicly same volume flow as the VE but doesnt maintain as high of a pressure up top. But still alot better than the de/det ones. Way better. Basicly it is very close to the VE pump as far as everything goes and yes i do feel its worth it. With that much power you want as much oiling as possible because any slack in it can result in a spun bearing or worse siezed bearing and throw the rod. I feel alot more comfortable knowing i will have more than enough oil flow and pressure to keep the bearings very well lubricated.

Its definetly worth the 300 bucks and it comes with the aluminum pulley as well just like the ve one. The pump was a must in my book and probably one of the more important pieces to the build. The de/det ones just wont keep up with the power and revs even though im only reving to 8k rev limiter. But these studs should be very very well off mixed with my cosworth 1.5mm headgasket. Hell yeah. Ill be having the block and head resurfaced thats why i opted for the thicker gasket. Other than that everything else is pretty basic.
