Looks like it wasnt on straight or the head moved. Were you using the dowel pins on the block? If not then thats the problem. If so it looks as though maybe detonation blew it out as it usually always occurs on the exhaust side of the piston from what ive experienced.

More details please.

Any detonation damage on the top of the block near the edge of the cylinder wall? Any detonation damage on the pistons?

If you dont know what it looks like its pitting of the metal is the sign. But by the looks of the gasket and where the imprint of the block and cylinder head are, It looks as though it wasnt sitting square on the engine like what would happen if you didnt use the dowels that are on the block.

there are two dowel pins sticking out of the block. I guess some of it could be from forgetting a bolt (on the water pipes) and trying to lift the head, then realizing i forgot that bolt.

only thing ive seen on the piston is some carbon build up. That ive tried to clean up some.

i have noticed on the second combustion chamber on the head, it looks like either pitting or it swallowed a spark plug strap in the past...

nah, you can see the imprint of the firing ring it isnt lining up with the opening of the gasket. You have one edge of it that comes really close to the edge of the gasket if not over the edge and then the other side is way away from the opening of the gasket. Usually the dowells dont get stuck in the head. There is one dowel on each side of the head. You will notice two of the head bolt holes have a widened opening with a seat on them. If you have these dowels/large roll pins then the gasket should have been pretty square.

What type of gasket is that? Definitely looks like a POS cometic. Thats the whole problem.

If its a cometic i know they had big big problems with them being very very loose around the dowel pins and the gasket would shift and not seal right. That might be the problem as well. If so do not get another cometic. Get a Cosworth gasket or mazworx gasket. The cosworth gasket is 154.00 shipped from FRsport.com It will outperform the cometic by far and will seat right on the block and head.

If you get a chance, put the dowel pins on the block and clean off that gasket and put it on the block and see how much it can shift around on the block and you will see what i mean. The cosworth and all other gaskets are tight around the dowels making for a perfect alignment. The cometics are junk and had many many issues.

I went with a oem non-metal gasket because i didnt want to pull the block and have it resurfaced.
So im hoping it seals.

and typo the dowels are sticking out of the block.

and not sure of the brand, but its multilayer metal

you dont have to resurface the block with a metal gasket every time. Only if there is a problem with it. Oh well you should be fine with the oem one for what your making. But yeah just by looking at that gasket I can tell its a cometic and it was definitely not sitting straight on the block and head.

hows the top of your pistons, do parts of them looked cleaned off ?

you were getting air in the coolant right.

how long did this go on for ? you may have warped the block.

stratton.

Guess ill know after i change the exhaust stud i broke, and put it all back together for a compression test....assuming i dont mess up my timing...

They all look about the same with the carbon build up.

yeah. i had no issues with air in my coolant if i stayed out of boost.

for about the past 3 months... b/c while it was still cool/cold outside, it never pushed any air into the coolant.
