Cam timing with SR16VE cams
Yes, I know, its not the best cam for turbo, but its what i can get here in this little country and its either this or the stock 20VE cams, which I gotta say, the top end difference with this vs the 20VE is just crazy. I'm pretty sure I can improve it messing with the cam timming a bit. I have done some research on the forum and I have found pretty good information related to cam timing with stock cams and with 20V cams, but not so much for the SR16VE cams.

Anyones input is welcome!

I have the non N1 16ve cams and they are great with the turbo. I have mine set to 0 on both and it makes good HP. I kick them in at 4800rpm. We have almost the same setup so you should be good. The only difference is that i'm running E85, bigger injectors and a bigger WG.

Cool!! Glad to hear another VET with 16VE cams, I kick them in at 4600, I noticed the 62 makes full boost as soon as the VVL kicks in, so I wanted to try kick them in at like 4000rpm

The sooner you switch the exhaust the better it will spool

The spool is very aggressive already. I switched them there to get a smooth power curve without the usual dip in power you get when the vvl kicks in. Let me know how the lower activation works for you. I'll probably play with it and see what happens.

I dont know if you remember JP but he used the sr16 cams straight up no changes to cam timing and they showed massive gains. I think on the same boost level towards the end there he went from making 621 to 671 just going from stock 20ve cams to the sr16ve cams. Im gonna be using them on my build as well. They love large turbos with large turbine housing and good flowing manifolds. Dont know what your using in that department but im using a large runner semi equal length tubular T4 mani with a 6765 w/ .96 turbine housing. Plenty large.

Also another thing was he was triggering both cams at 3200 and seeing massive gains all the way down there. No dip like you see n/a. It actually just jumped up. Massive gains in spool time as well which equated for the power gains. Give it a shot and see what happens. I know for highway having the large lobe on wouldnt be very nice but you can always change them if you have something easy to switch the trigger point with.

I have a long runner unequal length, with a .63 SC6262. Ill play a little with the activation rpm and let you guys know, I have tunercode so I can use the stock ECU to trigger the VVL.

From what I have been told the SR16 cams tend to shift the power up higher in the powerband. I for one will be sticking with the 2.0 cams. Kevin and I have a very similar set up as well. So we can see the difference.

BTW I sent the turbo back and they are sending me a new one with the .82 back.

i use the sr16 cams with my GT30r. Kick in at 3600 or so. peak whp at 7800rpm, but i rev out to 8500 with a limiter at 8800rpm.

The sr16 need a larger turbine housing for my smallish GT30r though imho.
