Let's Talk About Ignition Systems (Big Juice applications)
I know the factory ignition has been proven to support 500+ whp (we have done it) but with my new build I just want this set up to be covered on all angles.

I am pretty sure I will be going with a MSD Digital 6 and a MSD blaster coil. I am curious as to what you other big hp guys are using.

I will look into the Crane just to educate myself a bit.

Many V8 guys dislike MSD, they usually swear by Crane ignition products. A few had taken apart MSD ignition boxes and Crane boxes, quality of build was very different, the MSD unit seemed to be poorly built when compared to the crane unit.

MSD is made by Delphi iirc. They basically pulled GM into bankruptcy. I'd imagine quality control suffered.

Yeah you should be able to get away with the msd unit and upgraded coil and be fine whether it be the crane or msd.

I took my stock ignition well past 500whp probably closer to 550whp and boosted 30psi on the 60 trim. When i tried to go out on the stock stuff again with the t67 h.o. i found out just past 550whp was about the max of the stock components. That included brand new cap and rotor, low mileage jdm coil, and even upped the dwell time on the coil in the AEM EMS. Plugs gapped down to .018 as well.

When i first dynod on the 60 trim setup i had my plugs at .032 and it started misfiring at about 420whp and 22psi of boost. I gapped them down to .022 and it went away completely to 461 at 24psi. And kept that same setup and plug gap to 30psi of boost and no misfire issues at all.

I have my plugs gapped around .020 with the MSD at 25psi with no problems at all. You just reminded me I need to change my cap and rotor. I had them on there for over six years.
