Innovate LC1 wideband issues. Can anyone help??
So this past weekend I decided to finally install my Innovate LC1 wideband as I had a few hours of free time to spare and working on the "whip" is always fun

Anyways, I will run through my install procedure and place the issue at the end

1) I ran the wiring from the O2 sensor along the front upper radiator core support.
2) I then ran the controller itself alongside the ride side fuse panel up above the fender and then through a predrilled hole in the hinge support and into the cabin (all ran under the weather stripping). Kinks were checked along the wire and then was secured and sealed to prevent damage. This was checked by closing the door (an the bonnet) a few times and checking the wires for any damage
3) I connected both blue and white wires together and then ran them to a common ground on the frame
4) The switched 12V power source was taken from the orange wire which ran to the cigarette lighter.
5) I also ran the Led and monetary switch as layed out in the instructions
- The black wire from the LC1 was extended by wiring in 16GA multi stranded copper based wire from radioshack
- This wire extension was then tapped and and ran to the anode (or cathode, not sure if I remember, but it is as per instructions) terminal on the LED. The LED was then ran to a common ground
- The end of the wire extension was then ran into one terminal on the monetary switch
- The other terminal on the monetary switch was then ran to a common ground

After all this, I ran through the startup procedure in the LC1 manual. Now, here are where the problems arise

1) First, the LM1 programmer (and logworks for that fact) recognizes the port which the DB9 serial to USB cable that is plugged in. However, when I do hit connect, it gives me an error and says something along the lines of "system does not detect real time datalog, check serial port, cable or power connection". Now, the catch is however, the sensor itself is actually seeing power as the sensor ran through its heat up cycle (the sensor was hot to the touch)

2) The LED simply does not work, so I have no idea on what (if any) codes are being thrown by the system.

The software I am running is logworks 3 and LM programmer 3.29. Also, my OS is windows 7 (I am figuring a compatibility issue, but not certain myself). I will also try to post this on Innovates forum

Any ideas?? I am in the MD area too, FYI.

Thanks guys

It honestly sounds like your serial to usb cable is not compatible with windows 7. I never had this issue with a innovate program but my friend is running a EMU blue and when he got his new computer he needed to buy a new serial to usb cord.

Blue ground is supposed to be ran into the ecu ground IIRC.

Thanks Keo!!

But ofcourse, you know the next course of question.........Where art thou ECU ground?? I was reading thru Vadim's thread and he pretty much grounded everything on the manifold........

P.S. Also, Keo, have you installed yours as of yet??
P.S.S. And thanks D-Unit. I am currently looking into it as my brother mentioned this to me last night (I think amazon has them for circa $15 shipped)

also, if you have window 7 and it's not compatible with it, why not run xp mode?

First up, if the LED isn't working, then its backwards or broken, because at all times the LED will be doing something, during warmup, normal operation and when there is an error, it does something, on/off/blinking.

The manual specifically states the BLUE ground is to be attached to the WHITE ground at the same point. Doesn't say anything about the ECU. I use the cig light wiring for both ground.

You don't "need" the switch connected as all it does essentially is short the two wires that goto the LED, so you can do the same or just for initial testing, leave it off to rule it out. Make sure the shorter of the two leads on the LED is the one you have connected to ground.

The logworks issue could even be related to your adapter you're using for the serial interface. Assuming its a "modern" laptop that doesn't have a serial port, you'd have a USB to Serial converter. Unfortunately, they're not all made equally and there are some REALLY crappy ones out there. The 'best' ones generally speaking, are those based on the FTDI chip. They aren't all that expensive compared to other 'cheap' ones, but they're a hell of a lot more reliable. Worth checking what driver yours is using as it might be the cause of the problem.

I use XP on my laptop though so if its a Windows7 related issue, i couldn't help there.

sounds like a comm issue. As mentioned check the usb to serial adapter. Also make sure the software is setup for the correct comm port. I get the same error when I start log works with no sensor hooked up.

First off I want to say thanks for the input!!

As far as an update is concerned, I just wired up the led and pushbutton switch to a standalone power source and they both work flawlessly. So, with this development, it looks as if I wired up the LED incorrectly.

Also, as you folks mentioned, I have a feeling Windows 7 is not compatible with my DB9 to USB cable (although it did install whatever drivers on there). So, I will source a brand new (FTDI chip based) cable . I did a quick search and found a few at amazon, but any recommendations as far as other locations is concerned (say a best buy or radioshack)?? I am looking to wrap this up this weekend if at all possible.

Also, when I get back to the place, I will wire all my grounds DIRECTLY into the black wire of the cigarette lighter and my switched 12V power source to the red wire of the cigarette lighter and go from there.

Thanks again guys!!
