Thread: Boiling coolant

Actually first thing I did before going turbo was install Oil Pressure and Water Temp gauges. After a couple of minor problems I can say I didn't blow my engine thanks to those indicators.

The water temp. sensor (autometer) is very precise so when I saw the water temp. gauge not moving I was really sure that I was out of water at all. And when the engine was too hot (but not too much on the OEM temp. indicator) the oil pressure started to go down a little bit. At that moment I stop the car and checked!

So, exactly as irf305 said, it's very important to have those gauges. I totally agree with that!

when you pop the rad cap does, compressed air/steam come rushing out ?

Been thinking that. I have Goldeneagle studs and a oem gasket on the way... well, whenever greg gets my last email i will.

Call him and he will have it to you in two days. I had to do it last week due to a assembly mistake.

I may get flamed for this but does it make sense to just get another motor instead of replacing the headgasket? I have replaced a couple head gaskets in a number of different motors in my day and it is my experience that it is more trouble than it is worth, especially when SR20 motors are so cheap. Disassemble half the motor, take the head off, check if it is warped, mill it anyway because if it blows again you will kick yourself. Clean the block until your fingers hurt, it is such a time consuming pain in the arse. It is also in my opinion that once a motor blows the headgasket/overheats it is never the same. The internals get too hot and do weird things, it is the worst thing that can happen to the motor besides throwing parts through the block etc. I would just get another motor, which would also most likely have lower miles anyway.

if i were to pull the block, then i would just replace it.
But since im not, im just pulling the head, cleaning off the old gasket. and putting it back together.
I only need it to last the autox season or longer if it wants.
