Thread: sr20ve head on gti-r block?

heres what he did , remove the ve valve cover and just put on the gtir one lol ,with ve cover bolts and relocate hoses. We thought it would have been some crazy sheir but it just worked right there, cars pulls hard!!

DET
dowel holes in head - 15.1mm
head bolt holes in head - 13mm
head bolts - 11.9mm (under the head of the bolt were its slightly wider)
head bolts - 10.8mm (around thread)

VE
dowel holes - 13.6mm
head bolt holes - 12mm
head bolts - 10.9mm (under the head of the bolt were its slightly wider)
head bolts - 10mm (around thread)

basically, machine the VE head to the same measurements as the DET head. 1mm out of the head bolt holes and 1.5mm out of the dowel holes.

DE and VE valve covers are the same. It's the RR you have to watch out for. Since RR's don't have cam squirters the baffles in the VC sit a lot lower, thus wont bolt up to a DE/VE with cam squirters.

Using a DE VC on a VE doesn't have any significant issues, you just have to install the black oem oil catch, or you will have too much blow by in your intake piping.

we didnt machine the ve head to fit arp 1/2'' gtir head studs. only the dowels

it will fit. but maybe it can be gamaged with the head thermal expansion.

when I put my VE head on my gtir block I had to have the holes for the head studs drilled out and the spots for the dowles had to be made larger as well...de/VE/DET bolts/studs are 10mm I believe, and gtir head bolts/studs are 12mm, thus will not go through the head...bring the head, a stud/bolt, and a dowel to a machine shop and they will be able to do it for ya
