Time as come to go turbo on my EUDM N14 2.0GTI Sunny n14, after much consideration i decided to go de+t oposed to gti-r det... for now...

Since i´m on a budget, and want to go slow and learn things properly, my first turbo setup will be a test bed, and a learning curve, i´m no noob and i already turbocharged a Suzuki Swift GTI, so i know there will be some mishaps, blood and tears...

The idea is to get "pro" on the nistune ecu i plan on using and find a good clutch, wheel/tyre/suspension combo for a later on a GTI-R+LSD on P11-144 gearbox conversion... i really want a properly setup car prior going serious, FWD is a b*tch...

Since i´m on a budget and plan on going top mount, wich will involve lots of custom fab, i´m planning using a TD0413t from a WRX simply because i can get 3 or 4 of those for the price of a used nissan t25 or t28...

I´ve been studying the turbo and it is on the small side, in fact it seems to fit right in between the s14 t28 and gti-r t28, the turbine A/R is 0,71, the s14 0,64, the gti-r 0,86... Both the S14 t28 and TD04-13t are rated at 390CFM@14.7PSI... the gti-r 465CFM@14.7psi...

I know for sure it´s a good reliable turbo and as good spool caracteristics, and as been used with great sucess on miatas and starlet/glanzas turbo... but i´m worried it´s a bit small, and run out of boost high up on the rpms, since the exducer and inducer sizes are quite small compared to the t28´s...

The flanges are no problem, it will all be custom fabrication... What do you guys reckon?

i've heard that on the 2.0 that it seems laggy, but that's with the WRX guys. Not sure if that is the same turbo they ran on the 03wrx.

Yep. Same turbo... the ones that don´t use TD04 or TD05 use VF turbos, normally the special versions, like STI´s and prodrives... and the TD05 was only used in early WRX´s, called GT turbos were i live...

But how can they be laggy if they´re smaller than the T28´s??? Maybe has something to do with the wheel design, number of blades???

yea I guess. Could be the engine and manifold design too. But a lot of my friends complained of the stock turbo's demeanor. Automotive journalists complained of lag as well, but I'm guessing that the extra weight of the WRX with a small 2.0 engine was to blame partially.

I got a buddie with a VF 05 sti turbo i was thinking about getting and upgrading from my t25....starting to wonder if i should just get a t28 now tho...hhmmm

VF turbos are completly different and usually quite good, from what i´ve been reading... i think we don´t see them more, because is a Subaru "thing", the Nissan bunch is more into Garrett´s and aftermarket stuff made by garrett for and/or garrett flanges...

If you actually study a bit there´s quite good OEM turbos outhere, like recent volvo turbos... really good, with integrated BOV and state of the art technology...

I was more refering to the flange issue....i researched the turbo and it`s frickin sweet! just doesn`t bolt to the manifold i have or a gtir one...my car is a DD so i don`t want a tublar one...gotta stay cast...and i just found out he traded the turbo for a louder BOV and some $....all he has now is a godspeed turbo....i don`t want that =(

Tubular manifolds are that bad?

I´ve heard that the japspeed tubular manifolds for the sr20det´s, second generation ones, with the 2.8mm thick walls and some kind of brace from the block to the turbo/manifold lasted years... at least a 200sx from a friend of mine uses one for at least 1 year, not DD tough... but used pretty hard on some amateur drift events...

if the manifold is built well there shouldnt be a problem.

at the end of the day though a gtir mani can support close to 500whp.

I think its not good idea, especially if you are on a budget. Get a OEM GTiR parts from UK for a cheap and build it right at first time. You will safe a lot of work, time and money.
