Depends on what your power levels are and how long you want your trans to last. Ive used several gear oils, MT90, Shockproof both heavy and lightweight, Mobil 1 75w90, conventional 75w90 and last but not least and my current favorite, 85w140 valvoline gear oil.
the 85w140 is by far the best gear oil ive ever used in both the 5 speed trans and the spec v 6 speed trans im now running. Its not soo thick that its a pain in the mornings but it has great shock resistant properties and you can feel it when your driving. Shifts that were once notchy with the thinner oils are smooth as butter. Ive yet to break a gearstack on our 5 speed trans running this oil. I put about 5k miles of absolute torture on my last 5 speed trans with over 500whp and never broke one. Previously running the thinner oils I broke 3 gearstacks within 3 months. Im also running a twin disk clutch so you can imagine the extra shock on the gears during harder shifts.
Ive gotten several people on this forum to switch to it and they have all said its by far the best stuff they have ran in it. That and its cheap at about 3.25 per quart. So just throwing that option out there. Id say for turbod guys its the best stuff you can run if you want to protect your trans and have it last a long time.
