how are you going to tune with 1 egt sensor anyways...pointless. What's the point in putting it on the #1 cyl when the other three could be running richer or leaner? I would suspect that someone running only 1 egt would just be using it to monitor things and at the collector would be the best place for it.

ninja edit: I guess it woudn't be pointless if you can't control each injector individually anyways...

EGTs are not for tuning AFRs. How many times do we have to go over this? If we want to get into it, we should go to one of the EGT threads listed in the manifesto.

EGT gauges were used for tuning back in the day when there were no such things as widebands. Some people still use it to tune though but they usually have a probe for every cylinder. I think Ashton is just using it to monitor his EGT's.

#1 cylinder is the leanest on our engines anyway

I beg to differ. Ive yet to see any of my motors that ive ever melted pistons in melt the #1 piston. Usually its number 3 or 4. #3 tends to be the most problematic.

As for tuning timing using egts, thats not how its going to be done but it will be used in conjunction with the knock sensor. You will see high egts if there is too much timing even if your not getting knock. So if I see high egts and no knock i can still back down timing a bit until it lowers to be safe. Im using it more for monitoring but also tuning if egts present a problem without first giving it away on a knock sensor. And my placement in the downpipe will not really be any worse than having it in the collector before the turbine. In the instructions for the EGT sensor from AEM they state optimal placement for it is in the collector 1" before the turbine entrance when using only 1 sensor.

The most important question in this thread is how do people get green names?
