Yeah!!!! That stupid thing!!!! I actually just went to look for the "spare" I had. Can't find it :-/ I don't recall now after 3 years if I'm running the avenir or the usdm AAC. I had questioned that thing 3 years ago, over and over! I remember trying both of them hooked up both directions for air flow. Neither worked. Maybe I'll try again? Is the AAC serviceable as far as cleaning it? Is it like the coolant temp sensor as far as if it is the Jdm AAC it won't work?

Sounds like you're just as baffled about it as I was when I first saw it. =]

I believe it is serviceable, but the gasket will likely disintegrate if you take it apart and good luck finding one of those ever. Proceed at your own risk. Might be easier to buy new.

JDM versus USDM AAC I have no clue. I'd think they are exactly the same. I wouldn't worry about that.

Test procedure for this thing I think is to see if you can blow through it when it is close to freezing temps (just toss it in the refrigerator or freezer) and then make sure you can't blow through it when it is warm (apply 12v to it for a couple minutes to get it warm). That's about it... I think it is 12 volts. Might be 5 volts though. Check the FSM.

Dude, thank you ben!!! I'm really hoping I can call you my hero :-D

As far as them being the same though, I do recall the hosing was different between the two. I just cannot recall for the life of me which one i installed...but maybe it's on backwards? Lol! I'll try that again first!

If this doesn't work, in a terminator voice: I'll be back! Be smarter than the car!!! Lol!

I can't say for sure, but I don't think you can install this thing "backwards". The plug wires won't like it one way or the other because they might have to stretch to reach, but the air going through shouldn't care which way it is installed. I think.

I Literally just jacked my car...I'm going in :-)

I'm on my phone btw, seems I'm treating this as a text or Facebook. Lmao! In case you're wondering, I'm not hovering my PC :-D

AAC off the car and in the freezer...

So the opening was partially open when I removed it from the car. I popped it in the freezer with little if any change. I just ran a wire from the positive lead on the battery to the plug and nothing happened. Dunno how long I'm suppose to wait with it wired up but nothing happened after rippin a butt. I'm guessing this shall be my problem? I've got paper gasket maker, can I just cut a new gasket if this one isn't salvageable? I assume a paper gasket will work. Throttle body cleaner?

Nothing :-( I found the spare while looking for the gasket material and swapped that in, still nothing.

Just buy a new one, theyre like $80 from Nissan I think. I had 3 of them, all different. I just took em all apart and mixed and matched the good parts into the avenir housing.

Also, maybe you have the aac valves source hose (the hose that should be going to the intake) routed wrong. I have the hose coming from the bov pipe, like the stock avenir intake setup was.

You need to ground it too.

It might work, but it might not be thick enough to allow the thing to work properly.

I know Vadim found some old Nissan stock available new for like $15 of these things a while back and made a thread about it. They might have been for ethe 1.6L engines? I dunno...

Can you see through it to see how open it is? I've never looked through one. So if you can see through it, it should be wide open when cold in the freezer.
