BC cams are not drop in cams. You need to dial them in which most folks don't bother with. The cost becomes moot compared to JWT because JWT typically don't require cam gears to be dialed in on standard serums. Drop em in and go.

gotcha yeah i had the cams gears to go with em, its crazy i read about how bc cams were straight drop in and then all of a sudden thats not the case. Well at least i got the experience out of it, i can do a cam swap in less than 2 hours now lol.

They are a straight drop in for hydraulic lifters (using suitable cams for that head), but not for solid lifter motors. I don't know of any garenteed drop in with no shimming required for the GTI-R motors?? As i mentioned before, even swapping between two sets of stock cams i've seen people having to reshim to get the clearances right.

That is the reason i never swapped out my stock cams when I had my pulsar head on my motor. The car ran good and made good power still. The pulsar cams are bigger than the regular DET cams so keeping them in shouldn't be too bad.

yeah car definately makes power im at 300 easy right now just wanted a little more bump, what about the jwt s3 u ever run em without issue? i think i may end up just keeping them in as well.

mike, i upgraded to the s3ms few months ago and I noticed a slight difference, but I actually regret doing so. One of my rockers threw the first time during racing/2nd time two rockers broke and scraped one of the cams. At both times, the shims broke and needed to be replaced.

I have come to realize the gtir head is garbage and really can't be pressured compared to other sr20 heads. I would really suggest you to upgrade to the sr20ve head if you can afford it. If not, and you want to still go through with the s3ms, shift at a lower rpm like 7500 (I was shifting at 7900) I've gone sr20ve entirely now so wont have to worry about these issues.

thanks for the input on the s3ms man, i think i will just take ur advice on the gtir head it has been a bit of a pain because everything is so different on the gtir, how much work is involved swappin the head over arent the head bolt holes a bit bigger in the gtir than the sr20vet?

your welcome bro. I have heard the same story from several gtir owners. That is correct, the head bolts for the sr20ve are smaller. As far as I know, the major work is drilling out the ve head and new head gasket to use the gtir head bolts and tapping the ve head for oil. However, after doing this upgrade, you should obtain some good rewards in your response and power. VVL + Boost FTW! Im actually changing to the sr20ve motor altogether and getting it built because my gtir motor blew. Andreas Miko is the man to check if you interested in doing the ve head upgrade.

If you leave the head alone and don't have to mess with cams and shimming you will have no issues. I ran my GTI-R head for years with stock cams and most of the other DE-T cars didn't run close to me. I never threw a rocker in ten years of heavy abuse. I went VVL head because of a cometic HG that blew and took the head with it. I must admit that the VVL head is alot better than the GTI-R head but the other DE-T heads with those hyd. lifters can't touch the GTI-R head.
