UK SR20VE+T Problem
Right i have done the stock bottom end of a DE with a 16VE head and 20VE cams on a 2.0mm gasket.

I put everything together, the previous owner of the head blocked the correct hole off and ran a feed to the oil pressure sensor. In this i have my turbo oil feed and now VVL oil feed.

I started her up for the first time today. She started first time but sounds rough, very rattly top end and the oil pressure warning light is now on. I've let her idle for a while to see if she'd improve but she hasn't.

I fitted a oil cooler and relocation kit at same time as the head swap but i put plenty of extra oil in to account for this so i doubt it's anything to do with that.

Just sounds like it's not getting much oil up top.

Erm... help.

Which oil pump did you use? the DE or the VE?

I stuck with the DE. And to add to that, the engine i took the VE head off of was known to be running fine with a DE oil pump.

I don't think the DE oil pump will get the job done.

I think you would need a bigger oil pump anyway, especially when running both a turbo AND the VE head. The DE pump just is too small for that.

I have a fairly beefy oil cooler on there with a 2m relocation kit going around the engine bay. Do you think the DE pump can't put enough pressure round this and the block? I thought it wouldn't have any problem.

did you prime the engine first to get oil through the cooler?

Get onto POC he is selling a VE pump atm, the engine will definitely benefit from the higher pressure the VE pump will provide

Get a REAL oil pressure gauge on there first of all...then report back.

I did yeah. Primed it lots and cranked it without the fuel pump in for a while too. Put the fuse in and it fired straight away.

My bloody oil pressure gauge has stopped working so i'll fix than too.

I'm going to put the stock filter set-up back and see if that makes a shit of difference.

The DE pump is near new btw.

you need a ve pump the de pump will not cut it unless its shimmed to provide higher pressure. It should idle and run ok on the de pump but would not do well when switching the cams.
