Vadim, the only reason to go with S4's and a DE or DET is if you are weird and like less low end performance and lopey idle...

the VE head will give you better low end, smooth idle and a hell of a lot more potential for a lot less money..

(i fall in the category of being weird and wanting lopey idle and not caring about low rpm torque)

just do a ve, much more potential. imo a ve head is better over a fully build de head with port and polish,

if I had a 240SX, i'd definately go with a VE head conversion on a DET block and go for 350 hp or more..

but FWD, I am cool with 225 hp... just me

The stock 2.0VE cams will idle about the same if you lock the high lobes in at idle, which is basically defeating the purpose of the VVL. You do not need smaller cams than the 2.0VE as the small lobes are relatively small and will get you the gas mileage you desire especially when you add in the fact of the higher compression of the VE.

Oh I'm not even thinking about S4's. For that cost VE any day . Another thing that's pushing me away from VE is wiring everything up. I'm a computer guy but for some reason in cars I tend to like mechanical work more.

Another thing I was thinking about is, I'm quite impressed with how fast even an RR with an intake revs up. It gets up to speed in 1st and 2nd gear pretty quickly too. Having a VE would help it get up to speed a lot quicker, thus I'm thinking if it's even worth boosting it. Hence for now I will use what I have sitting in my garage, DET, External gated GTiR T28, O2 induction mani (might sell this one), 3" exhaust. See what power/MPG that gets, if it rocks I'll leave it, if it sucks I'll VE it .

6 speed gears tend to be shorter, so you get the same effect. Also having a lower RPM at say 70mph wont necessarily help the gas mileage if you have to WOT get to 71mph.

General thought in this area is, be as close to max torque range without going over. Closer you are to max torque the more efficient the engine is.

Don't waste your time with the de.

And what wiring are you worried about?? The only thing you'll have to do is extend a few wires for the iacv, and then just wire your vvl selenoids to your switch... Your harness will be able to just work as is.

Vadim, do it sell the DET , get the VE break even . You will need a few other misc parts but your looking at a extra $250 -300

My B13 Car is still in the works id say less than 1 months time . possibly 3 weeks ...

First swapping the clutches , B14 is giving up its clutch and Flywheel to the VE in the B13.
Ill keep you updated .

VE
GTIR T28
STI INJ
3in Exh
GTIR FMIC
2 1/4 IC piping

goal is 305-320 hp. I have done my homwork on this project for a few years now and these numbers are very possible and more . its all in the tune

I believe you can get 325-350 out of a T28. Your tune and all the extra supporting parts have to be in place though.

Rodrigo what kind of clutch are you planning on running? I'm wondering if my current clutch setup (Competition Clutch stage 4 pp and B15 SE disc), will even hold up under a DET with 300whp. I'm afraid once the cams switch it will be spin city

You'll be working that GTiR pretty hard but it should hold for awhile. I loved that little turbo on my SE-R.

Fine fine you guys convinced me yet again . I'm checking some places out for quality/prices. JDM Engine Depot is in NJ (very close), so high up on the list.
