I ordered two engines bout they were out of stock. Now I don't know if I want to bother with it.

I think I'll just keep on using a DET for now, VE wife's car, if I like NA VE then VE-T my car. Even if I VE'd my car, I would want SR16 cams but the lobe overlap would kill the boost.

Don't quit on it now, its just a temporary set back. One of the CT guys might have a VE laying around. I bet one of the sr20deep crew has something for a decent price they could get rid of. They are out there, u just gotta move on to a different company. Hell your intake manifold for the DET should just about pay for the whole VE. I vote stay with original plan and do an external gate t28 VE at 12 psi and it will be a blast. You will always wonder what if if you don't and it will be in the back of your mind all the time. Also, instead of sr16 cams, you should look into 20v cams but the stockers will be a great match for your turbo anyway. Remember stock 2.0 cams are bigger than s4's and the VE head on top of that will make much more horsepower than any DET at the same boost levels.

Well the thing about it was, I was ordering two engines to save on shipping, I'll see if the local VA company has cheap shipping for just one VE. Thing is I want to see how much better gas mileage wife's VE will get over RR. If it's 18mpg (current) vs 25 (VE) city then I will swap in a VE into my car too.

I really don't want to go too far above 300whp because of reliability that's needed, plus I am using a B15 SE disk.

So a VE-T is still on the table, but this setback told me to just use what I have. Otherwise I am loosing some money on my DET block (no way I can get back what I paid for it just 2 years ago).

Also 20V cams are nice for power, but I want smaller lobes for the daily lobes. 20VE cams are smaller then S4's, check here.

Understood and I was wrong about the cams as long as that thread has them all measured at the same lift. That would explain why the s4's hold power a little higher than stock 2.0 ve cams, lol. Wasn't thinking too well and got a slight bit confused I guess

they may be bigger, but the ports on the VE make all the difference. That said, don't waste money on a VE Vadim, its just not worth it. Running 2psi more boost really won't kill your DET that much faster. I understand your reservations, but if my old DE can take what I put it though, I'm sure your DET will be plenty reliable for a long time to come.

But the extra 2psi and the lower compression ratio on the DET will hurt his mpg. If he can sell the DET and come out near the price of a cheap VE.... anyway that's his basic logic from the beginning. I know what you are saying but I tend to agree. At the same time this isn't going to be a do it once and get it done affair I just have a feeling about that.

Tiger Jap Auto (hit or miss place, had good luck with my DET) has them for $695 plus $183 shipping. The shipping seems to be $183 for two engines too though.

Ha no worries, I thought 20VE where also bigger then S4's. But it also explains why S4's idle so "loudly". Now 20v seem to be bigger then S4's.

A VE would be more appealing if I had an option for smaller small cam lobes. But since I can only use 20VE and 20V(much bigger), the gain in gas mileage might not justify the effort. Now the headflow might.

Actually the the extra 2 psi wont really do anything since it wont dump more fuel in vacuum, but lower compression does.

I will simply continue with my original plan, might actually use the O2 Induction manifold and then see if I can get better MPG's then I did in the Sentra. Then will see how SR20VE does in my other G20, if I'm uberly impressed then I will go that route.

I completely agree on this as I would choose a ve with stock cams over a det with s4's anyday. I also know the ve is a much better head design, which is why I have been pushing him towards it since the begining. Vadim- The S4's idle louder because there is now low cam lobe. The stock 2.0VE cams will idle about the same if you lock the high lobes in at idle, which is basically defeating the purpose of the VVL. You do not need smaller cams than the 2.0VE as the small lobes are relatively small and will get you the gas mileage you desire especially when you add in the fact of the higher compression of the VE.

if mpg's are the main concern why not just do a 6speed swap?

I be boosting 15psi all day long my DE after the metal hg install.
