are you concerned about the compression ratio, why not just get a thicker headgasket to lower the compression ratio?

Vadim, if you want better mileage push your spool time back and drive with a little less pedal.

Heavily contemplating it. VE has a better oil pump and water pump though.

Plus VE head gasket is $75, so replace the head gasket, drop VE on it, but then if I want to go back to VE block that's another $75 on head gasket , then new bearings, etc. etc.

Nope, I'm concerned about the weaker piston rings. My goal is to run 6psi but reliably. I would hate to get stranded 2-12 hours away from home.

That's why I went with a T28 bro, it helped a little not enough though. 8.5:1 CR blocks are just not as efficient out of boost as 9.5:1.

You could run 6psi reliably on pretty much any engine even without an intercooler. You are overthinking this waaaaay too much

and it would be the biggest waste of a turbo

turn up the boost to atleast 10

I just don't want to be enjoying my vacation at on a tow truck . I would love to get some better pistons into it, but when you add up the costs it just becomes not worth it.

Reason for 6 psi, well it's because of my external gate spring, it's either 6 or 12. I definitely don't feel right doing 12 without DE/DET pistons.

No... that still spools too fast. I mean step away from the t2 sized turbos... look into a super 60, sc61, gt30, something that will spool later, especially if you go VE-T. That way it will drive like an na car when you feather and boost a little later.

i would go VE. i never looked back to a DE engine once i got to drive a VE car. VE has more potential and its alot more fun to hear the turbo spooling while VVL is making peoples ears bleed then just hearing a nice turbo noise.

for gas mileage it wouldnt matter, once u put the pedal to the floor the gas gauge will drop. if u wanna have fun and get awesome gas milage buy a swift
