JWT high lift cams for turbo
Saw this in the "All Motor" section today. Wondering about these High Lift cams in a DET?

WTF are JWT S3/S4 HL cams????
"S3HL CAM SET SR20 BILLET 0.457" LIFT / 260 DEG. DUR. "

"S4HL CAM SET SR20 BILLET 0.484" LIFT / 266 DEG. DUR. "

"S3 CAMS BILLET SR20 0.442" LIFT / 260 DEG.DUR. PROBABLY THE MOST POPULAR SR CAM IN THE WORLD! GOOD ALL AROUND STREET PERFORMANCE...."

"S4 CAM SET SR20 BILLET 0.464" LIFT / 266 DEG.DUR. A LITTLE MORE POWER ABOVE 5500RPM THAN THE S3 CAMS, BUT A LITTLE LESS LOW END TORQUE."

What are HL cams?

I thought I read that on turbo engines valve lift is less important, since the intake air is pressurized, and that turbo engines do better with less duration and over lap, as excessive overlap can cause the boost pressure to blow the intake charge down the exhaust manifold.

The more I try to learn, the less I understand. The S4HL cams seem to have more lift and duration than the JWT C1 cams. Does this mean the plain S4 cams are better for turbo motors? I'm confused.

they have higher lift, as indicated in the list. You want s4 for turbo, IMO. I probably just have the regular ones since I got them a long time ago used. I would think the HL S4 cams would be better for turbo, but i'm no expert.

I had some S4HL cams in my T25 car. They made a world of difference. My car would peel anywhere in 2nd gear, but without them it would only chirp 2nd. And you can feel the extra power after 5500 in every gear. I loved them but I sold them.

did you ever compare them to the regular S4 cams?

Most of us just use the regular S4 cams in our turbo setups, and personally I really loved them, made the top end of the T25 setup great

No I haven't. I can just say I really loved the S4HL cams. I sold them and bought a VE head

- I'm going to measure my S4's as soon as I get a chance. If they are the regular S4's, "I would like to/ but won't" sale them and get the HL's.

i would wonder if the High Lift S4's would require springs/retainers because the regular S4's are already on the cusp of requiring them......
