i have an Avenir motor, and was running for a while with no A/C compressor. The belt that i used was a 6-rib:

NAPA
25-060331

fits perfectly and got me running since my motorset had the compressor removed..

Ive had it happen on my old b13 and ive seen it happen on a 240 . They make the correct rib count just use it . At higher rpms the belt slacks up . You might have had good luck but I would use the right belt .

true, I found this one in a hurry and it has worked great so far, but using the right one is surely the way to go

That is not right there are at least two different belt combinations. Depending on which alternator you have you may have to use the belt with one less rib. If you keep the belt tightened up you will be fine. Just check it every third blue moon and you have nothing to worry about.

Yes but you cant over tighten the belt too or you could damage the crank pulley rubber insolator . I dont why people are making a deal just get the correct rib count and never have to worrie about it period !!! Ive a had a b13 with 5 rib and found a 5 rib shorter belt and Ive also had a b14 with a 6 rib and had no prob finding the right 6 rib belt .

Because one size, depending one which alt pulley size your car may have does not have the correct rib count. They just don't sell it in the US.
