Most of the fastest guys here are the guys who keep it simple and strait to the point. Proper sized turbo for your goals (not a gt40 just to run 10lbs), fuel system setup to handle the power with a little room to grow, clutch to handle the power, tires/drag radials to put the power down to the ground, and suspension. Thats it. All this VE head ect ect is just extra stuff until you hit 400whp or more. Start with the basics. Once you start making power THEN start looking to complicate things. It doesnt take a VE anything to make 400whp on a STOCK det.

You sir have just won the internet!!

Johnny wangwang ftw. Thanks dude. What sort of cheaper turbos were you thinking? A GT2871r is expensive as hell. I don't necessarily have a budget, I just want to make 400Whp as cheap as possible. I'll work my ass off and make money till I get the parts to do it, idgaf.

Morgans432, wanna buy your ve head back? Haha kidding, my buddy wants to buy it and it'll get me money to get started

I will repeat myself again (as your answer is not very definitive)

What is your definitive budget and ending usage for the car??

So you have no budget set, but you want to make 400whp as cheap as possible?? A little contradictory there.

I will say this and leave it at that.
Turbos are fairly easy if you know what your doing, have a goal in mind and realize that it is not exactly "budget" oriented.

Get a solid goal/vehicle usage in mind, then set a budget based off this before you do anything else or I can almost guarantee this project will either a) not leave the ground, b) when it does try to "take off" it wont go very far........Essentially a waste of both your money and time

Just being a realist here so take it as you may..........

Agree, I tried to turbo my car 2 times before I actually did it. His car is already turbo so if he approaches this as improving his current setup with one part at a time instead of as a build it might be easier to pull off.

Also in my case I'm aware that the HX35 will be laggy but I'm kind of experimenting, I already have a relatively responsive turbo with plenty wheel spin and I want to try a turbo with more lag and less tire spin. I can have the HX35 for really cheap so I'm gonna try it out, but I'm keeping my current turbo. I do have a goal and it's to have fun. I don't really race, I just accelerate once in a while for my own amusement and which ever power band feels more fun, that's the one i'm gonna go with. When I get tired of one I'll switch turbos again.

My goal for this car is an all around fun car. Just something to work on, gain experience with, dump money into, and HAVE FUN with it. I know it sounds lame, but with this setup I'd like to walk Corvettes all day long. Maybe other slightly built muscle cars and v8s. Yes, the car will mostly be street driven on nice days and cool summer nights, and it'll also see some 1/8th mile track time, but not a lot. After I get the turbo setup I've always wanted, I'm going to upgrade brakes, and do some mild suspension work to make the car feel a little sportier. I'm short on cash NOW, but it's from the lack of a job. The manager at NTB set up an interview with me next week...sooo maybe I'll start getting some moneys soon.

And I do plan to buy one part at a time until I've got everything I need. Then I want to pull the engine and clean everything up since I kinda just threw the Avenir in there. While it's out I can do rod and main bearings, head gasket, and head studs. While the heads off, I wanna get it redone since I can get such a ridiculous discount and I'd like to take advantage of it.

^^^^ good point. my gt28rs setup that made 342whp would spin 1-3 and would break loose at the top of 4th. To the op just get a det and replace the bearings. slap a gt2871r on it with a external gate and be done. 400whp all day long with a great power band. I would also run s4 cams.

You should hit 400whp between 18-20psi. A top feed fuel rail will give more choices in injectors.

I am going to go out on a branch here, but I am going to guess those washers, bolts and fittings are possibly garbage (do not have first hand experience).

I would look around in the FI section first as sometimes, its better to buy a quality one used for the same price as an off brand brand new.

I would hate for that "billet" to end up warping and causing a massive fuel fire..........Or better yet, a fitting backing out or failing causing the same issue..........
