Why do you need a VE head to make 400whp? if you are really on a budget, sell the VE head and get a low mile DE motor and call it a day.

School. If it's so overrated, I wonder why people with degrees make more money in a lifetime than those without?

I only regret that I didn't start school as soon as I should have. Hard to do classes with a 40+hr workweek and a family...

Oh, and fwiw, pad your budget with around $1500-$2000. There's going to be a lot of small things that add up along the way.

No. That's a top-mount RWD manifold. There's no telling where it will put the turbo compared to the radiator, etc.
Wastegate placement looks awful for trying to fit in a FWD engine bay.

kind of thinking about selling the ve head now...wish i hadn't sold my hi-lift S4s. An equal length tubular manifold is going to be a lot of extra money. and I have a perfectly good W10 Avenir motor in the car right now...I could just buy pistons, rods, injectors, log mani, hx35, and another set of S4s. and of course bearings, head studs, headgasket, new oil pump. maybe get the DET head reworked

Use the det as it is.

Just slap on a bigger turbo and some cams.

Stratton.

yes yes i know. I'm building this with a part time job and spare money. I don't plan on dropping out. Plus I'd say I'm pretty close to an ASE certification in brakes...next will be engine repair. After tech school I'm going to college to get a degree in business.

for a 400whp "budget" setup, I would go with something like:

sr20de
sc61
log manifold
72lb injectors (w/resistors)
top feed fuel rail
aeromotive fpr
walbro 255
3" downpipe
3" side exit exhaust
ACT 6 puck sprung w/ extreme pp
nx2000 radiator
ebay fmic and piping
silicon couplers
t-bolt clamps
s4 cams
z32 MAF
JWT ECU for 72lb inj/z32/turbo
oil lines
mechanical boost gage
mechanical oil pressure gage

plus you will end up spending around $2000 for random supplies throughout
