Most power out of stock USDM SR20DE???
Ok so this is my first se-r. I used to be into hondas for years and built many of them but wanted somthing different for a change. sooooo my question is how much power can a stock USDM SR20DE hold in hp before going forged internals??? OOORRRRR is it better to just buy a SR20DET??

Mike Kolima's nephew(?) made 540+ WHP on a stock internal SR20DE. That's the highest I've heard of. A good, safe estimate is usually 500 WHP on a regular USDM SR20DE before really needing to go with upgraded internals.

For real high power on a stock block it is still worth while to go with a DET because of the lower compression ratio and piston oil squirters.

WOW thanks man. Danm 500hp!! thats nuts, the most we can get out of a stock honda motor like a gsr is 350-370hp and then your on a risk of blowing up.

LOL yep, Thats the truth man. I put 30psi from my 60 trim garret t3 with .82 turbine roughly 500whp on a 180k mile bone stock motor that already had been beat to hell and it took about 10 runs before the #3 bearing finally spun simply for the fact that the motor was old and had never been broken into.

With a fresh jdm de or well taken care of usdm de, good thick oil, maybe throw a VE oil pump on there, i can gurantee you the motor will take over 500whp for a lot longer time. The rods are beefy, closed deck block, decent pistons. Just keep detonation away. The first thing that will usually go is the headgasket which is what JP found out on the VE motor. I believe he made it to around 600+ whp and the stock bolts stretched and the head lifted blowing the gasket.

There is several people that have taken stock det blocks to well over 700whp with forged internals. I plan to join that stock block 700+whp group when my setup is finished.

but I belive he is talking stock block ( and block internals)...
You had aftermarket DET forged pistons and aftermarket rods and bearings ashton...

Id say that a fully stock USDM SR20 (block) will take it to around 450whp or so...
But you will have to go on high octane fuel, and a good flowing turbo to help cool the combustion chamber...

I was talking about the motor i threw in before my built one. lol. I threw in an old 180k mile motor that was unopened just for kicks to see how much it would take before blowing up. It took it other than the old original bearing on #3 finally spun.

My built motor took around 520-550whp no problem.

I was just throwing more points out there about how strong the SR20 is both in stock and built form. Not even requiring sleeves. haha

oh nice!

What octane were you using on the stock DE?

Replacing bearings is easy and cheap before the go so you dont have to machine work... Im impressed that the HG or pistons didnt blow up...

A friend of mine made 440whp on a stock block GTi-R and his headbolts couldnt handle the 25psi and lifted, so the HG blew up, that was on nothing more than 93 octane fuel tho

I was running straight pump 91 octane with that motor. Like i said it didnt last but a day and about 12 passes 1st through 5th gear spinning the tires till 130mph before the bearing spun. I tried to change it out but the damage was done to the crank. I mean they did have 180k miles on them and had been run low on oil because of leaks several times. lol. It was one of those what the hell kinda things.

I changed the bearings out real quick and took it out and it threw the #3 rod out the block. It was definitely oil starvation to the #3 as the journal was scorched red from the heat, lol. I tore the motor apart and the other bearings, all the other pistons, and cylinder walls were perfect, hahaha.

I have seen several stock de's go over 500whp.
