I am using stock springs and retainers with the BC Stage 2 cams. They are big cams for using stock springs and retainers. Once you get high up in revs, a DE needs more oil pressure as well, so look into a new or VE oil pump if you go with bigger cams and more RPMs.

I over revved it once three days ago. I thought I may have thrown a rocker arm but alas, I checked yesterday (just to be 100% sure) and popped the valve cover and everything was where it should be. I rushed a downshift and hit 8000 RPM under zero throttle and braking only nothing happened, thankfully.

I do not use rocker arm stoppers. I would rather fish around the head for parts rather than bend a valve. I do not know why people use them still.

Get rear parts to stiffen the rear of the B14. I would not touch the front at all unless you are going to be track racing the car. For any other purpose, buying a larger front sway bar is counter productive. I would leave it stock and increase the rear as much as you can. Rear strut tower bar, rear sway bar, new bushings in the rear beam, etc...

- Stay away from rocker arm stoppers. I have BC2's in my daily. $225-$250 for a used set is a easy pick up. I took mine to 7400k almost everyday on stock s/r's.

For 8000rpm on an aggressive cam you probably want to upgrade your valve springs. If you want to go higher you should invest in the VE oil pump and the roller rocker lifters. This will prevent them from collapsing at high RPM's. If you've looked at the top of the retainers, you will notice that one shim is flat and one shim is grooved. Some people replace the flat shim with a grooved shim to help keep the rocker arm in place.

But honestly, to make 300WHP the stock top end is completely fine. My suggestion would be to take the money you were going to spend on valve train and invest in a modern turbo and engine management, its money better spent.

so if i go for the stage 3's i can use bc springs and stock retainers if i follow thru with the 8k redline plan? i'm planning to get my friends spare ve oil pump if i do go with the original plan. thanks

so im good with a stock head with the 7400rpm det redline?? should i still get the ve oil pump if i run the stage 2 cams with stock head?

i'll be racing my b14 so i'm thinking of front and rear sway bars. maybe even doing a panhard rod mod as well to the rear beam.

Dan martin said it best.

Stage 2's in a stock valvetrain works and it will work to 7400 RPM, indefinitely. And they are dirt cheap. Another plus.

Use the money saved from doing headwork to do your suspension work, get the engine properly managed, and invest in quality turbo parts and boost the piss out of it.

I would use the springs and add retainers if you already have them. Mechanical over rev can still do damage with out the ras installed. If your lucky the rocker arms will get thrown off and not mess up the cams on the way out. If your unlucky you can damage or even break a cam. You also get to play the fun game of find the shims.

Seems like you decided for the bcs stage 2, but I'll still say its gotta be my favorite cam over the jwt s4 for half the price almost the same power range/curve its a better bid for me, I've used them in 2 different set ups a t25 set up stock head gave me a 30whp same boost same everything over the stock cams. And I'm using them currently on my T3 set up made 340whp at 10psi making power til close to 7400 rpm again stock head stock
142K mile de motor tuned on an safc
