I took the car for a mountain run today. Decided to see how it does in the corners. Granted the front tires aren't the best, and I don't have a front roll bar. The car did phenomenally well. It really surprised me with how well this thing was able to pull through corners.
The torque steer didn't seem to be much of an issue either. As you go through the corner, you can feed throttle, and the turbo responds immediately with inputs. As long as you stay above 4000rpm where the VVL kicks, the engine has a very broad powerband. Climbing up this mountain pass I thought for certain the radiator would get cooked and the car would overheat. But it survived just fine on 10psi. The car handles very well for a bumpy mountain pass. I would like to get it on the track soon and see how it does, but my nerve was the limit on this run. The car could have gone faster and faster, but I didn't want to push it as it is the hardest I'd ever pushed a car through a pass like that. I don't really wanna die, so I had to back off. On the way down, speeds would exceed 100mph on steep grades and that is just scary.
The car made it back from the beating in one piece. The brake rotors have a bluish hue to them, so I know they got glowing hot.
But now I want to upgrade the radiator to a Mishimoto or a Koyo. The problem is, my radiator sits too close to the turbo and manifold. What have you guys done to fit the larger radiators on a B14? I may make a custom radiator or something. Move it forward a couple inches to clear and it should work great. Any solutions or pics?
