What are you using for a gear oil. I used Valvoline 85w140 in mine and my shifts were not notchy at all. I had no problem no lift shifting or shifting normally. Once the oil warms up it was smooth as butter. The positioning of 5 gear was what took getting used to. 5th is very hard to find quickly and sometimes even when shifting slow. Its just in A weird spot. Enjoy the car. If the trans is feeling proper i would try the Valvoline oil man. Seriously, its got a lot of cusion and still maintains very smooth shifts.

using the heavy shockproof. It's what I have always used for the most part. 2nd gear seems particularly notchy though. Perhaps this gear oil is too thick?

The clutch will need another slight adjustment though. It engages about 1" from the floor and has approx 1-2" of freeplay. perhaps that will help.

The car drove 100 miles today. So far so good. There are a few squeaks and rattles I have to fix, and I need to burp the A/W setup.

But all the hard stuff is done.

The cables may need to be worn in a little bit. I had to re-straighten them because the junk yard that pulled them bent the crap out of the ends. I got it perfectly straight, but perhaps the cables are no good? They seem to work just fine with the car off, and 2nd only gives the occasional issue. There is a lot to get use to, the clutch is heavier than any that I had prior, but it is very smooth and feels beefy as hell. The clutch is Magnificent! Just gotta get the proper adjustment I guess.

i heard the 02-03 cables had a defect anyway and were a hair the wrong size and caused the synchros to wear out prematurely

I think my cables are from a 2004. Almost positive actually. but a new set may be a good idea.

Looks great man. Keep up the good work and hopefully you will enjoy the crap out of it once the breakin miles are done.

Very nice man. One of the best if not THE best looking and performance wise SEL out there. The new wheels and brakes look great. Can you feel the braking improvement.

That, sir, is a compliment! Thanks bro.

The brakes feel absolutely stock. The pedal feel is decent, and should get better with new brake lines. But initially the brakes don't let on that they are huge. But when you give it a little stomp, they will likely make flat spots on the tires. I did my first burnout without the rears dragging along like they always do. So they have better holding power, and after 100mph pulls they never faded.
