It all depends on your power levels. The B13/B14/P11 trannies can hold quite a bit of power but if you really enjoy spirited driving on the streets and are not very careful about how you shift and how hard you let the clutch out during those shifts and how many 3rd and 4th gear rolls you do. They can quickly turn into nothing. 450whp and above tends to really shred through gearboxes.
The 6 speed on the other hand should take 450whp like a b13 trans takes a ve motor. That is why im doing the swap and i mean just from an engineering standpoint the 6 speed gearbox was originally designed for a 267hp, 270ft-lb of torque V6 and is still being used in the current 300hp v6's as well because it meets the qualifications as far as strength and reliability go to handle the job.
Our trannies were designed for a 140hp motor. So the fact that they can hold 350-400whp fairly well says a lot. So to say the 6 speed trans will take 600whp easy should be correct. And that looking side by side of a 6 speed stack compared to a b13 stack, the difference is 100X clear that the 6 speed is that much more beefy. So im not worried one bit and can go back to harsher shifts, 3rd and 4th gear rolling burnouts on the street all i want and not have to second thought the trans capability to hold. That and these trannies shift like butter and you have the advantage of a Helical LSD, far superior to the VLSD in our trannies that if your lucky still work properly.
Cant wait for some results Coheed. At this rate you might get done before I do.
The biggest thing about this swap thats been holding people back is the whole big confusion about clutches and flywheels. Andreas has been taking care of the flywheel and clutch part for a single plate disk and for those wanting big power and a clutch that will hold very reliably past 450-800whp the Competition Twin Disk setup will be done in a couple weeks as well. Thats what im using on mine. I loved the twin disk, its easy to drive on the street and it grips like no other. So those will be available in the 1250-1300 dollar range when done. That includes the clutch and flywheel and TOB and in reality isnt much more than a single plate clutch and flywheel setup. So you will now have choices when it comes to the 6 speed swap and hopefully more and more people will jump in on this and make it a regular and kick our weak crappy transmission to the curb.
Coheed, the bellhousing on that side does not stick out any further than your normal P11 bellhousing does. The slave sits more up under the thermostat housing so thats out of the way as well.
The converting to hydraulic is cake, like Keo said use the 95 maxima or just modify the b15 pedal and drill new holes in the firewall and you can make it fit easily. Ive never seen a 95 maxima pedal used so i cant say if its easier but if Keo is right about it bolting right up, then man dont even bother with the B15 one. Thats interesting and id like to see some pics of the fitment of the maxima pedal.
Good luck and definitely take pictures. The more the marrier. I have pics of my swaps progress in the build thread and the stuff i had to do to fit it. But yeah its easy.
