Yeah, you don't need a standalone. I just got off on a tangent.

I'd rather have a 12x12 ignition map plus all the features of MS2 than a 16x16 map and only launch control.

Plus, megasquirt calculates values in between cells. It doesn't jump timing when the ECU is referencing the map. Ie if you have 20* @ 2000 rpm and 30* @ 3000 RPM, if you'are at 2500 rpm it will be at 25* timing

I am pretty sure the stock ECU does the same interpolation , except it does it between 4 cells close to each other (may be better).

Yes the stock ECU does interpolation between all 4 adjacent cells. (So does MegaSquirt and any other half-competent management system.)

Do stock ecu tuning options (Calum, Nistune, etc.) have the ability to log knock from the stock sensor? And if it does, how reliable is it?

That's a question for an entirely different thread in an entirely different forum section.

Id go for an aftermarket knock sensor

I never said it didn't, I just said that because of this, 12x12 ignition maps are not the end of the world. It is not a dealbreaker, and all the other functions completely overshadow this small detail.

I like megasquirt. Its cheap and a stand alone with a built in MAP sensor. This way I don't have to run a MAF and I can also run distributor less if I feel like going crazy with the ignition system. Plus I get to throw out and unnecessary wires for a clean engine bay
