I was going to say torque, but took it out because the information I had to work with had WHP numbers instead of Torque numbers.

Torque kills /thread.

Usually the culprit will be torque or driving habbits. We have put down 500+ whp on stock B13 gearboxes and they have held decent.

Keep in mind guys most these gearboxes were designed for 140hp at 132ft tq. So I say they hold up just fine

When I had the B13 tranny I ran a stock bronze disc with an ACT Xtreme pressure plate, never had an issue with cluth slipping, and the engagement wasnt harsh while daily driving, but did the job when racing...

When I switched to bigger turbo, I bought P11 tranny with an ACT unsprun disc and I must say engagement is a lot harsher, but I thought hey its P11 it cant break with my low boost setting which is estimated in like 300whp, so I abused the hell out of it with flat foot shift and stuff, and now Im pretty sure its emitting "funny" noise

I never broke one tranny with my t25 or t28 setup, other than one at the track from wheel hop and broke the case.

When i went with the t3 i was using an ACT extreme pp with 6 puck sprung disk and never really broke any trannies except for one. I got about 6 months of abuse out of it.

I was always using mobil 1 75w90 gear oil as well and that was with 460whp

I then went to a twin disk and was in the same hp range daily driving and i went through 3 gearstacks in a matter of 3 months from hard shifts into 3rd or 4th. It was always 3rd and 4th gear. Funny thing was, at the track on slicks i could hard shift all i wanted and never broke a trans, but the slicks have a lot of cusion on the driveline so thats probably the reason why. Even with 500+whp at 30psi it held just fine on the track. It was always on my DD boost level of 20psi and on street tires that broke the gears. The street tires dont have any give at all.

I then switched to Valvoline 85w140 gear oil on the last trans i had and it was perfect. I put about 5 months of hard hard abuse from 450whp-500+whp on it both on the track and street and just took it easy on the shifts into 3rd and 4th and never had a problem. The gear oil helped a lot as well as taking it easy on shifts on street tires. Again this was with the twin disk clutch with solid disks.

It has a lot to do with how you drive and gear oil.

Again it was originally designed for 140hp, lol. So for it to hold fairly well with 400+ is alright in my book and give me a lot of hope on this 6 speed swap being it was a gearbox designed for a 267hp, 270tq V6. And in side by side comparison its night and day. So i think i will have much better reliability from the 6 speed over the old 5 speed and still be able to slam the gears on street tires and not have to worry about stripping teeth off.

When you make it to those power/torque levels you will see how quickly this statement changes..

Where'd you get that from?!

This.

Torque kills, not WHP.

People need to stop asking about WHP figures regarding transmissions breaking. The torque/torsion/flex are what kill gear stacks. I had ZERO issues with my 98 non-lsd gearbox, and my 02+P11 LSD gearbox. I never made over 270wtq, but over 400whp on these transmissions and they held up just fine.

Who said anything about torque?

At 500whp do you think you will make less than 350ft lbs of torque?

shutup cliff its kinda self implied that a nice amount of hp already has a nice amount of torque to go with it, where not talking about honda's or anything most of yall can probably free draw a dyno chart for a 2871r .68 @ 16 lbs, just simplier to talk hp
