Thread: WTF! Melted my A/C line

Today just happened to be such a crappy day. It was raining all day and I was feeling hot so I turned the A/C on. At first it was a bit cool but then it started blowing warm air. I was like WTF is happening? I just fixed my A/C a couple of months ago. It was pouring all the way to work so I couldn't pull over to check if a fuse had blown or something.

When I got to work I checked the A/C fuse and it was good. I opened the hood to check things out and BAMMM my low pressure A/C hose was steaming!. Apparently the hose somehow managed to come in contact with my turbo manifold and the result was it melting all the way thru. I don't even know how it managed to touch since I bent the aluminum line away from the manifold as much as I could.

Have any of you guys had this issue? The line from the dealerships here in NYC are $180+..Courtesyparts.com in Texas has it for $85 shipped. I have a friend at NAPA who says he can replace the rubber part of the line for a few bucks so I'm debating my options right now.

OHH and on top of that my car isn't making any boost. From a visual inspection all the fittings look like they're on tight and my wastegate looks like it's closed at idle. So the boost demons are starting to show themselves?

Just have the rubber replaced with high pressure line at a hose repair place. Do it yourself for cheap!

You will prob need to get a foil-type heat shield for that hose. Mine blew 3 times before the AC compressor finally froze up. AC is expensive, so out it came.

mine did the same with my turbo, so u know how many psi that is so i know what kind of hose and couplers to get

Has to handle about 200psi max i think.

either get a high temp line, or switch to the 1.6 line

melted mine too when had the turbo! Welcome to the club! If putting on a new one word to the wise don't over torque the bolt on the condenser. Dam aluminum is soft!

Get the pipe a little bent and that will help to a level. Also on my B14, adding a shorter pipe helped it avoid the headshield a lot .

^good advice! If you redo it, you can get industrial style AC lines/fittings from Parker or go the more "AN" style route with Aeroquip fittings/hose
