ITB on DET
If one would install an ITB (say a GTiR ITB) on a u13 DET for that theoretical 40 to 50 horses what are the things to consider, fuel management, ecu, timing?

I have a GTiR ITB standing by with 550 HKS top feed on an HKS rail I'm thinking of putting it to good use but I want it to go smoothly less the hic-ups in the aim to improve the DET engine.

The DET has the following:

1. JE pistons 86.5mm
2. Eagle DET rods
3. Sleeves
4. Titanium springs and retainers
5. JE valves
6. Blueprinted crank shaft
7. OEM Det injectors
8. 53J MAF
9. HKS EVC IV boost control

Precautions, and advice please

I had been working on something similar last year but never got to finish it but from what i had read and been told by some friends who had experience with ITB's was that ECU tuning would be one of the main things.

I'd also like to hear what others have to say on this topic as I'd like to get back on that track again one day.

I do have an EMS 8860 motorsports as the ecu I want to know if its also possible on just using SAFC.

can the ITB be tuned with an SAFC?

I personally would not mess with ITBs without a standalone

The GTiR ITB's won't bought straight onto a normal DE or DET head, unless you have a

different flange made for your head. The way the normal intake manifold bolts to a normal

DE/DET head is different than the way the ITB's bolt onto a GTiR head...

i agree, why go with itb just to tune with a basic piggyback, you arent going to get great results.

I just finished my build with the GTi-R ITB's. Fitment isn't too bad of an issue, the entire bottom row of bolts on the ITBs need to be redrilled to fit the head. I'd also recomment doing some port matching to benefit the most.

As far as tuning, I am tuning with a basic board, and let me tell you, it's a big pain in the dick. A standalone or a RT would be nice, but that's not to say it's not possible (I'm getting by just fine!). I would say you'd be fine with an SAFC, but it will take a bit to get it tuned just right, as it behaves completely different than the stock IM.

Be aware you will lost bottom-end/torque. I was surprised how much I lost (I also did a full port/polish too), but the top-end is outright gnarly!

If you have the time and motivation, I say do it!

Lets say you have a GT35R turbo

GTIR ITBs on a DET will not give you 40-50 WHP.

In my opinion you are better off getting an O2 induction manifold with a 70mm TB. This option will give more WHP than the GTIR ITBs with alot less work.

^not to mention it doesnt require any specific tuning per the manifold itsself
