That's what everyone says, until you actually go to purchase the pieces to build one from Home Depot. It can't be done for less than maybe $18 but usually ends up costing upwards of $30. Factor in price of gas and time spent messing around at the store and the eBay MBC is the thing to buy.

I've worked with them both. They were identical in operation from what I could tell.

Yeah, I agree with Ben. It's about $10-15 for the fittings, then you have to get the ball and spring and the Allen bolt and nut. Then I'm sure that you have to drill out one end of the T fitting to accept the ball. If you could do it all yourself and needed it right away you could DIY, but otherwise it'd just simpler to just get that eBay one.

Finding that one spring is the killer. You'll usually end up having to buy a $5 pack of assorted springs and 3-4 of the 50 springs will be usable for this purpose.

Stop going to Home Depot/Lowe's.

Ace Hardware/True Value is where it's at. The key is LOCAL hardware store. Not chain store.

I like the Grainger version, and it just so happens my work has a Grainger account...

Yup seen that one, I don't like it because it seems like it could turn itself if if you mess with the hose. I could be wrong though
