Thread: turbo options..

so currently i have an excess power manifold with a 50 trim, not familiar with the turbo specs, hate this set-up, manifold is leaking because an external wastegate flange was welded on but i will fix this when i take it off to replace it with the stock one.

my dilemma is whether to rebuild the stock t28 or save up and go gt2860 or gt2871r

i'm also on a college student budget so i'm trying to weigh out my options, financially and optimal choice for daily driving.

GT2871R is the way to go man. I've had it on the Turbo B13 and in my opinion is a great all around upgrade to have on an SR20 motor!

On a budget? Rebuild the T28 (if it even needs rebuilding).
No budget? GT2871R for sure.

I think the 2871R is too laggy for the street. I'd go 28RS or just stick w/the T28

Well as far as stoplight olympics go the t25 or t28 will win everytime(stop light to stop light), but on an decent sized road or track the gt2871r will win. I dont think they are that laggy. I have had a t25 set up, t25/28 and 2 different gt2871r set ups on my car, one was the jgy bb37 and one was a pte gt2871r. I am currently running an ihi ball bearing vf34 turbo which is similar to the gt2871r, comes stock on the jdm subaru sti spec c version.

I think the best street turbo really depends on what your hp goals are. But its easily a toss up between the gt28rs and the gt2871r.

Miko has an incon turbo that would work perfectly. Wish I had funds for it!

I might be talking out my ass here but I thought 16g's were practically t25's.

im running the 2871rle and its nowhere near laggy at all. and in running 8:8:1 compression. all the times ive had my car on the dyno the shops have always been real amazed at how quick the spool is. so imo a 2871r is a great way to go and probabl the best smaller sized turbo for the sr20s
