Right.

You really ought to consider a Synapse I sold my SSQV before I even installed it, in favor of the Synapse. I saw three separate cars in the shop with the SSQV, and they ALL had compressor surge, EVEN WITH direct vacuum/boost sources. Friend fires up his H22 Turbo EG Coupe and shows me the difference with a Synapse unit, and I was sold on it immediately.

I know they're better, but it works great now, not a single bit of surge. If this one breaks down the road someday Ill definitely get something else, but for now its not worth changing my piping and valve if its working good.

Just so you know, you don't have to change your piping. You can order the valve with an adapter flange.

It will have the same flange as the hks? Or it will adapt to the hks pipe fitting?

I never had a problem but mine was the adjustable one, so when i was getting surge i juat adjusted it and it went away. Thats why i dont like the new ssqv its non adjustable from what i have seen.

It may also have to do with how far it is from the throttle body. When i had the stock tmic set up and the ssqv mounted on it it would surge quite a bit. I think on that set up the bov was just too close to the throttle body.

Yes sir, great bov. Never seen anyone have issues on Subaru application and we sell them all the time. Awesome valve design, no springs or adjustment screws. I've seen it work fine on cars running 10 to 25 psi although I am sure it can work higher.


Jer are you running Joshs valve then? Is his newer? Sounds like you have a fucking old ads one that is probably not functioning properly. SSQV valve is one o the most knocked valves out there too. Too many times I've sen guys have issues when they thought they had a genuine valve and after sending to HKS they found out it was fake and the reason they had the issues.

You can pull the fin out to change the sound, I believe it is in the valve instruction manual on hksusa.com .

I dont have surge at all. But they may be right about the BOV location. My BOV is on my hotside probably about 1 foot from my turbo. So it may also make a difference where the BOV is located. If its on the coldside the the air on the hot side would have to be relieved through the intercooler first before going to the BOV which slows things down a good bit. I also have the Gen 3 thats not adjustable.

The adjustable ones seem hit or miss. You adjust it for your highest boost setting so it doesnt leak. But then on low boost driving it chatters because its not opening up properly. Set the spring to soft to avoid the chattering and you have a boost leak on your hands at high boost.

That's not how this design works I don't think. It should never leak no matter how you adjust it or how much boost you make. Look at the diagram.
