I've seen so many SSQV valves surging it's beyond funny. Everyone insists that's what they are supposed to sound like. They aren't. They don't sound any different than any other BOV. If they "flutter" you're surging.

What to do about it?

Like Johnny said, find a great source of vacuum and if you have the adjustable version then lighten up on the screw some. If it's not adjustable I do believe you can swap springs.

Edit: I see you fixed the problem by going to a different BOV. Good for you.

is there a way to know the resistance of the spring other than try and error?
A friend of mine bought a BOV that woldnt open on any boost lower than 14psi...

I don't know of any cheap vacuum testing tools, but there has to be some out there. Maybe just a hand pump, check valve, and pressure gauge.

That's basically what we used to test my old one.

The SSQV's design is great. Its just not really for low boost type settings. You dont have to worry about it leaking like other BOV that are adjustable.

BTW for anyone that thinnks its a ricer BOV...YOUR CRAZY! The Greddy type S is a ricer bov! All you have to do to take away the squeak of this BOV is take the fin out or instal the fin that lowers the squeak.

So the mercedes sign looking fin is just for the squeak right? I can take it out and have no ill effects?
