Thread: Stock bluebird setup Questions

Hey guys whats up. So I just bought a t25 setup and Im gonna run a topmount ic and wanted toknow the max hp efficency of the bluebird ic. I was gonna run 4 bar on the 370cc try and get a boredout stock de maf, nismo fpr. Hopefully should put me in the 290 range if I max out the t25..Idont even think the ic will support 290. But I am running a stock b13 hood with a wrx scoop so that should help a bit.. Any info would be great.

You will not support 290 whp with a t25...

A lot of people down the top mount but its a decent intercooler if you actually get air flow to it. I suggest tilting the intercooler up at an angle to channel the air through it using that wrx scoop.

Multiple runs this way... on 14lbs, a/f stayed below 11.7:1 @wot on 4bar, hot side was hot, cold side was COLD, and I was very suprised.

I rocked the top mount first in its stock position and it would be steaming hot, always, even on cold days... went to a large front mount and piping for a while - sold my piping to a friend that needed it, but last year went back to top mount for a little bit suspecting a turbo upgrade. I tried tilting the IC up and to my suprise it healed the heat soak issues that so many people spit about. 4 bar and a little bit of raised pressure will be good.

In order to tilt the IC you will have to get a U pipe and cut it in half and extend it with a coupler... and bang bang...

Stock Mounting... try and stay under 12lbs, and feel the IC after... cold side was always hot even with the hood scoop.


Tilted up... Made world of difference... 13.6 @107.1 on 13lb stock setup w/ a 3" exhaust... cold side would be cold

why not just go with a front mount? more efficent

you will either need a longer angled coupler to do this, or a cut 90 deg. bend w/ a leg... when you tilt the IC it is a little farther away from the TB... longer ... maybe check siliconeintakes.com or atp, or ebay... Also, I think the piping is 2.25" on the IC side of the u-pipe but check me on that.

Mock it up first, and then you will be able to find out what coupler you can use....

Stock ecu should be tuned for the extra fuel pressure to compensate either by eprom chip like a calum ecu or jwt, realtime tune, or piggyback... (You can't just turn up the fuel pressure)... but I don't like piggybacks.

The top mount works fine if you get air to it. If you don't thats when the heatsoak and innefficiency come into play. It's not ideal for huge power, but its not as much of a burden as some people say it is for 225 - 240whp or so.

I always thought it silly that nobody uses the det TMIC, and they even advise against it-its plenty enough IC. FMICs seem really vulnerable to me- rocks, speed bumps, possums, whatever...plus, I would much rather cut a hole in a metal hood than a urethane spoiler and expect it to hold its shape.
Open a Subaru hood-they took exactly the same approach as Nissan did, just 10 years later.
If can ever manufacture enough of an excuse to buy a bluebird I'm doing it exactly like that, and I'm calling you for advice. Nice work!!

Yeah I just sold my whole setup... I missed the top mount. Spooled up so instantly...

It's cheap, and it works... its certainly not the best, but for whats its worth it certainly does its job.

I amnot looking for crazy power and I have a extra b13 hood with a wrx scoop thats not being used so it gives me an excuse to use it....And Ilove the look of a tmic its just so basic but clean..

I guess I will just run 3 bar for now then maybe send it off to calum for a full setup via consult and all..Thanks for the help Tokes..

yeah i guess so, the front mounts can just be more efficent, but if you have the scoop like you said might as well use it
