Thread: Turbo exhaust smoke "troubleshooting help"

OK trying to get some input. Here's the details:
Car smokes white/blue only after letting off the accelerator after a reving the motor past 2500 rpms at idle and sometimes smokes a little inn between shifts while boosting, but it's more noticeable while in neutral and revving.
I bougth the car from a local guy about a week ago, he did not know what was going on with the motor and he sold for a reasonable price.

It is a Lowport SR20DE with a GTiR T28 kit, JWT ECU, 370cc @4 bar, Cobra MAF program. I compression test it and all cylinders were 165-175. All spark plugs are clean without signs of oil. I took off the turbo, from the exhaust ports to manifold were dry without signs of oil just black carbon deposits.
The downpipe its also dry but get this,,, at ther muffler there's wet oil residual

The turbo shaft play it's very minimal and the intake piping side has sligth to none oil residual, I doubt it's the intake side because I've seen how intake side oil coat looks like.

By the way I will be installing N/A Headers tommorow to see if the car still smokes.

exhaust valves? white = coolant and black = oil

nope! black isnt oil, black generally is unburnt fuel, blue is oil, white is water...
do this little test, let the car iddle for like 5 or 6 minutes, then tell someone to give it a little throttle, you watch the muffler, if blue smokes comes out, then its valve seals... generally when turbo is messed up or oil rings then the more you rev the more you smoke, not like that with valve seals...

Your turbo seals are on their way out. The turbo can be dry, but further downstream in the exhaust is where you'll catch what wasn't burnt off. Remember, the flashpoint for most motor oils is less than 400 degrees (F), and that turbo setup easily sits around 1000~1200 degrees. The oil for the most part is being burnt before it even hits the downpipe.

Bring it to raleigh and let me check it out.

here this pictures should pinpoint the problem, I think the problem is the oil drian from the turbo was sligthly kink on top of that look at the pictures and you can tell that the fitting they used has a much smaller hole than what supposed to be.
Here's thexhaust ports, as you can see they are dry.

The turbos I've seen fail from oil seals would smoke after extended idling.

I migth once I put it back together. You should come down to fayetteville on Sept 11th, the guys from NYCE1.com will have an import north vs south event at 1/4 track. Bring your turbo NX to represent.

What do your plugs look like?
