Thread: Quick maf question

Just a question about changing maf's. I was reading the sticky maf thread to lookup a maf from an infiniti j30 I found.

I already have a cobra maf installed, and a safc2 running interference for ecu. Seems like the j30 maf would be better.

I've read where the maf should be tuned for the ecu, but I've had no trouble with the cobra maf on the safc2. So should I really have the ecu tuned, or did I happen to get lucky?

I'd really like the j30 maf if it really supports about 500hp.

if i were you, i´d let the cobra maf if its working fine

install the new maf and use the correction maf stuff in the afc to correct for it, in theory afrs will stay the same, if they dont, then do a fine tunning with the afc. But if you have the cobra maf working fine, then why change it?

It says the cobra 70mm maf is only good to 350hp. I'm in the middle of changing turbo setups, and looking for big power. So the extra headroom from the j30 maf would be perfect.

Been working a lot of overtime so I can afford a nistune board and other misc stuff to make it all work.

Okay...went ahead and pulled the e60 maf. Pulled it from a 97 Infiniti J30. Looks just like a z32 maf really, except it's a 3 pin harness instead of the 4 on the z32. Only paid $25. The J30 only had 99,8xx miles on it. Not too bad for a 97. So I hope I won't have trouble with it after a good cleaning.

My only real concern is in the sticky maf# thread, it says the PN# for the 500hp J30 maf is 22680-30P00. The PN# on this one is 22680-31U00 A36- 608 E60.

I'm hoping I didn't just get the same thing as a Maxima maf that supports just the same 350hp as the cobra maf I already have.

On the upside, I was looking around on other nissan forums(after the fact that I already bought it) and they all said the e60 read the airflow better than the z32 (n60 or n62?). Not sure if it will be better than the cobra, but who knows.
The other forums also said that the e60 DID only support 325-350hp.

Hopefully Andreas Miko or someone who knows a lot about nissan mafs will read this and shed some light here.

The one you got(E60) will only support around 350ish hp. Next time look for an N62 maf and you will be set!

Oh well. It was only $25.

So is a n62 the z32 maf? The 4 pin? If not, what all cars could I find one on?
