Thread: Boost Falling Off??

So I went to the track last night for the first time on the bigger injectors. And my car ran like dog crap. I went from 50lb'ers to 72lb'ers on a JWT tune. It has given me trouble form the get go but I have it kinda sorted out. So last year on the 50lb'ers I trapped 118 all day at 17lbs of boost. Highest trap last night was 113mph. So I had the boost set at 21psi but when I went down the track I noticed it would fall off to 15-16psi. Not sure if its a boost leak. I'm gonna check later today. I was thinking about my setup and this came to mind. I have an HKS external waste gate. With a 6.5lb spring in it. I'm using an HKS EVC boost controller. Now I was always told you can only make twice the wastegate springs rating. Do you guys think it could be the spring not being able to hold the 21psi?? Just currious what you guys think and any info is appreciated

T3/T04E 57trim. And I have been running around on the street set at 20psi but wasn't monitoring the boost all the way to redline. On the old 50lb'ers 17psi was my max on a 50/50 mix of 110/93.

did a boost leak test and held 24psi no problem. so I'm deff thinking the wastegate spring won't support anything over 17psi

no doubt it's your spring. get a 14psi spring.

I'm having the same issue, but I'm running internal wastegate with a 6psi spring. I get fall off even for 15psi. Falls down to 13psi or so by redline ;/ w/an EBC.

Same here Hks adjustable internal wastegate w/EBC set @20psi ..@the track it drops to about 13psi wot,on the street she holds pretty good...still testing and tuning at the track patiently...

what psi spring?

not sure its a universal hks internal WG good for 14-16 psi, I adjusted it all the way tight and it went up to 25lbs for a sec and held 18lbs strong...then i lowered the adjustment when i put the EBC profec-B and now Im trying to find that sweet spot!..my car is on jackstands at the moment waiting on new trans axel seals.. then back to the track and dyno..
