If Im not mistaken, that mitsu turbo is internally gated. Personally the 44mm will be overkill, a 38mm will be just fine. And no need really for a Co2 setup either.

Very much agree here. Leave that to the pros. It shouldn't have even been brought up in this thread. It just adds confusion.

Thanks Ben. That's exactly what I was trying too figure out. I wanted to run lower boost most of the time, and just let it off the chain on occasion.

The td04 is internally gated, but it's history. On to bigger things. I received a bit of criticism when I originally installed the td04hl, but I can say from experience.....even I was surprised with it. It spooled very quick(almost from idle), and I ran it at 12psi with no problem. Did choke a bit on top end. A great little turbo though. I know this part is a little off-topic, just thought I'd throw it out there.

It's entirely possible that 44mm is overkill like Mazworx says. Maybe you could run 0 psi at torque peak with a 38mm. I don't know for sure, so personally I'd get the bigger one. But if money is a factor the smaller one could be used no problem.

I think he may have been referring to the td04, but I'm not sure though.

I just originally figured: more airflow=larger gate, to be able to control it. Refering to the t04e anyway.

It may take a bit for me to afford a good quality 44mm gate, but I'd rather have the peace-of-mind associated with quality. As opposed to jumping on a cheapo ebay gate or something. Not that I'm knocking EVERYTHING on ebay, just that I'm sure you get what you pay for.

Really if money is an issue, I'd go with the cheaper, smaller unit. I'd hate to make you spend money on an unproven hunch, and there's not many people I know who are really interested in running super low boost levels.

Im running 8 psi(on daily mode) on a Master Power T60 with an $75 ebay 38mm wastegate and it holds 8psi all the way to redline, no spikes. And when boost is turned up it doesnt gives spikes, stays at the desired boost...
so my opinion is that a 38mm wastegate is ok for you

So why would running a lower psi make a larger gate a necessity? All the big guys running GT42R turbos would be running small gates because they are running 40psi right? Nope.

I guess I could give that 38mm a try. See how it works. At least it's free.

I planned on running about 10psi daily.

I have a Tial 44mm external wastegate, fitted with a spring rated for 8 psi.

This is coupled to a GT30 hybrid, roughly good for 600 crank HP.

This is mated to twin manual boost controllers (albeit electronically controlled).

The base pressure sits at 10 psi for 1st and 2nd gear, then shifts to 18 psi for 3rd gear and finally 22 psi for 4th and 5th gear.

The boost holds at these pressures, does not creep or spike or fall off, just stays right on the button.

There are so many other factors that comes into the equation though, but in saying that, this setup works for me.
