Thread: SR20DE turbo?

so heres the deal i have a nissan 100nx GTi with stock sr20de and i was thinkin will i need to get lower compression ratio if i put a turbo ,or is stock pistons enough ?

There is lots of info on this forum on this subject. Lots of people are running boost on a stock motor. Do some reading in the turbo section and you will know.

I think pistons are same, just compression is higher. DET has stronger rods.
Turbocharching 10:1 SR20DE is fine if your engine is in good condition and you will run good tune.

My avenir has lower compression. It has oil squirters for the pistons too. I don't think there is much difference in the rods.

You will be fine just turbo charging what you have.

you will be fine as long as you dont become crazy with the boost

There are numerous threads on this forum and the old one about installing turbo's on 9.5:1 sr20de's. A few of them even have pics and instructions, you'll just have to take the time and read...it definitely takes a lot of research when you are starting from scratch and don't have a clue.

I love how a question regarding turbos was asked in the All Motor section when the Turbo section is about 1/4 of an inch below it. (depending on your monitor size of course)

Anyway, you can boost it how it is, just watch the PSI. You cannot boost at higher PSI with higher compression ratios.

1) Read every single thread in this section:

Read them twice and take your own notes. Hell, print them out and highlight sh*t.

2) Then read every single Sticky at the top of this Section:

3) Then go buy and read a book, "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell.

4) Then use the Search function to answer any other questions.

5) Then when you are reasonably turbo-educated, report back to us with your plans and ask any remaining questions that you did not understand from your reSearch.

After you have followed that outline above, you will willingly and happily receive all the help, expertise and professional advice from this forum you could possibly hope for.

I'm kinda fond of Street Turbocharging by Mark Warner though.

That list is exactly what I would do if/when I ever went turbo. Educate the sh*t out of myself before I bought anything or started wrenching.

(Or in my case, I'd do all that even if paid anyone else to wrench. If a trustworthy professional mechanic was turbo'ing my ride for me, I'd still want to know everything about everything bought, installed, and used in my build.)

I just know the Corky Bell book from old SCC articles. Recommended by Mike K or Coleman or somebody Brainiac-smart.

I will take your word for it on the Warner book.
