Grinding block.
Does anyone know how far I can grind this down until I strike gold and coolant leaks out? In need about 3/16th - 1/4" till I clear.

As per Andreas Miko - If its the GTIR manifold you can grind/mill a bit off where the turbo mounts to the exhaust manifold for additional clearance rather than hacking up the block. Cant tell by looking at that what you have.

What turbo are you using and manifold?

You can grind quite a bit.

My depth perception might be ****ty, but is the housing going to clear the motor mount there too?

That may be my next move Blair. But it cost $ for machine work, I (unfortunately) am running low on $ after this stupid turbo project.

Im not exactly sure what manifold I have, when I bought it I was under the assumption it was a jgy ported gtir manifold, but from looking at other peoples pictures it doesnt have an aggressive bump in the first runner, so Im not really sure. Im not assuming its a BB mani. : (

The turbo is an hks gt2835r, which is basically a gt2871r with a bigger turbine.

I wonder exactly how far I can grind that plug? I have grind-ed it about half way of its hex depth (the hole where the allen wrench would fit). Wondr how far past the bottom of the hole I can go? I have searched for hours and hours to find a picture or a more detailed explanation of "grinded the **** out of it".

We ground it all the way down to where you would put a socket in to turn it. It was basically flat and smooth. We also ground down a little bit of the compressor housing on the turbo because we didn't want to grind the block any further.

I'd suggest you get a GTI-R manifold instead. That will save you a lot of headache and grinding ;/

idk, you'll just have to fit it up and start grinding. I think you have all the information you need.
