Thread: Wire tuck writeup/pictures?

So I see all of these gorgeous engine bays with many wires/components missing and they are so clean. I have searched around, and cant find anything on the process. Does anyone have pictures or a writeup from their wire tuck experiences? I have my car in pieces right now, and have been doing a lot of cleanup. I figured this was a good time to do it. I have taken the time to move and relocate some stuff, but just really curious about bigger stuff like fuse boxes, etc..Thanks!

code3smith i just finished a tuck. i also redid the engine harness in new fabric-ish loom, cleaned the plugs.

its actually ALOT of work and i know i could have done it better.

but when i post pics in the near future youll see how i did it and ill explain to you.

with out pics it will be tuff to picture.

i also repainted the entire bay while i was at it.

its very involved and will take a good weekend of constant work, maybe even 2 weekends. i would recommend that you rewire the entire power system while your at it, ie, alt, starter and the power to the fuse boxes.


what i did was i removed the harness that connects to the all the fuseboxes in the engine bay, this harness also goes to a big white "smj" plug in the interior of the car and is held together by a 10mm bolt.

from there i find all the plugs i wont be using, (abs, a/c, ect) and trace them back to their location and depin them. then i label the location on the fuse box for each fuse and relay and depin them completely (pictures really help) then i pull back all the fuses and relays through the rubber grommet that goes on the driver side by the door. this leaves with wires for your head light corner lights fog lights bumper lights horn and fans and altenator. (you might have to cut down those ground pins to move everything as well as the white power wires that power your fuse boxes ect.)

Thanks for adding the additional information. I just see a lot of people do it, and always wanted to some basic wire tucking. I noticed I have a lot of fuse/relay boxes that only have one item I am actually using, and they are just ugly and take up space. Here is a shot of my engine bay right now for reference. I just cleaned up all of the emissions crap, so the intake looks a little nicer. I am going to get the throttle cable tucked. But as you can see, there are the two fuse boxes on the driver side, as well as the one on the passenger side. How about relocating the radiator overflow? Anything I can do while its all apart would be great.

basically what i did, was unloomed all the harness, and started by clipping off the clips i wasnt going to use, then i removed the wiring for those clips, i removed alot of stuff, then relay box on the paasenger side i only had a horn relay so i moved that over to the other relay box and then hid that box along with the fuse box, l also pulled out the whole main harness, disconnected it from the under dash and went from the there

Im wire tucking mine as well. Gonna use the fabric loom also. Removing all the wires from the main engine harness that arnt used such as egr, egr temp sensor, egr solenoids and etc. I removed the main chassis harness and im doing a 50 pin military connector and 7 large pin military connector to connect all my necessary wires for headlights turn signal, running lights, fan, and electric water pump.

Im gonna mount the main fuse box and relay box under the panel where the windshield wiper linkages go. There is plenty of room in there since i dont have wipers on mine to mount them and to branch out the small looms for the headlights, turn signals, alternator power wires, starter signal, all being hidden under the underside of the chassis.

I will post pics of course when im done so you can see how it turns out.

Subscribed I have done a few tucks and some wild and crazy bays (splatter paint comic books). Time consuming and tedious work but worthwhile anyways.

That's really why I started the thread was the hope of pictures/how-to. Definitely some good information so far. I think even a nice basic how to on removing/cleaning up various components/wiring in the engine bay would be real nice to have.

So one question, are people relocating the radiator overflow tank? I see many builds where the passenger side of the bay is empty except for a motor mount. So I can assume on those builds, power steering has been eliminated, which I am considering. Wiper motor is sometimes removed. But there is still a fuse box, overflow tank, and washer fill neck.

Also, can I simply cut wiring that is not being used anymore? For instance, I don't have fog lights anymore. Can I simply cut the wiring out?

While you're at it, tuck your throttle cable behind the engine... It cleans the bay up a lot.

I was also thinking of places to move the overflow tank. I think it would be possible to put it in either the bumper somewhere or the fender possibly....
