Billet wheels are far from gimmicks. They do in fact flow more, and have much better response characteristics. An SC6262 that spools faster than a 3076R with the same .82 A/R exhaust housing is proof enough for me.

It's not the billet wheel that makes the thing better. The same wheel could be made with a casting process and it would be the same or slightly better (no tooling marks). It's the aerodynamic design that matters right now.

The Precision turbos are very nice, and their new compressor wheels are a big part of why they are good. However it isn't because they are billet, it is because they are re-designed and "flow" better. They would be just as good if they were cast. It just so happens that they are billet. No big deal. It's partially a marketing gimmick and partially a manufacturing necessity for Precision.
Unless the billet wheels are not a new aerodynamic design. If they are the old design but just machined from billet and the tooling marks left over help the compressor work better. I don't believe that's the case though.

I have no idea. I don't think anyone really re-badges turbos like that. They may use Garrett center sections and even wheels and housings (not saying they do for sure) but each turbo builder has special things they do and combinations or parts they use that make their stuff different.

I have a billet wheel for a GT3071R, all you would need is the compressor housing and it should fit t he GTIR turbo.

The PTE billets are a in house turbo , they even have a ballberring one that need no water to it , and is rebuildable now ...

I think people confuse spool with boost onset. The boost onset on a dyno graph will show similar results, but I could show you a GT4202R spooling like a GT35R. But the response? Forget about it, the GT35 will leave the GT42 in the dust on a road course.

Likely, you could find an SC6262 spooling just as fast as my TS GT30R, but the response characteristics won't come close. Garrett is the standard in this industry for now, and even though I've wanted a BW for a long time, I stuck with my Garrett because of their price and durability. A new CHRA for a trade-in for me is only $500. That's good.

But to say they spool the same defeats the purpose. My GT30R spools as fast as a disco potato, and has a much larger wheel and housing. But it doesn't. It only has the same boost onset, or makes the same power at certain rpms.

Billet wheels don't spool any faster, it is the design of the wheels and their flow rates. The Precision turbo compressors have more blades than the Garretts, and thus will flow more. I'm sure there are trade-offs somewhere, or garrett wouldn't have waited so long to offer the GTX-R turbos. But looking at their graphs, they will flow more at the same pressure, but will surge more on higher boost. Perhaps that is the tradeoff?

Yep air cooled ballbearing turbos. I still feel more comfortable with water cooled.
