Well, to each his own. The AEM has a lot more features that make it worthwhile. Antilag anyone?
depending on the GT2871r, they can support power levels up to 475.
I can't say for sure what the issue is with studs. The new ARP are a lot stronger, but I still blew out my cometic gasket. Now, it could be because of detonation as to why it blew. Or it could be either the studs or the cometic. No way to know for sure. The ARP being a stronger material and a higher torque spec than the GE studs, should be up to the task. The cometic had fitment issues from day one. Plus, when I ran the 20v gasket and the old ARP I never had any issues. Just food for thought.
A local guy here made around 350whp on 18psi iirc on a 2871r with an O2 inductions manifold. Tons of work done to that motor, and a lot of potential. But I have seen people struggle to make great numbers on that turbo.
I think that if you have everything you need now, go for it. I honestly don't think you will have any issues with the parts chosen. Even after my cometic blew, the car still ran fine and didn't smoke at all. But high boost runs in the desert with 100*F+ days with tons of boost and pump gas would push coolant out the reservoir. At least now I know why.
I really like the fact that the GE studs only torque to 72lb. Torquing the ARP studs always makes me sweat. Not just because it's a lot of torque, but because I'm worried about pulling the threads out of the motor.
