Question about SR20DET's
Hey, I was just farting around this morning thinking. (literally, one just sneaked out) lol, anyway.. okay most factory SR20DET's are well over 10 years old, pushing the 20year mark before long. GTiR engines olddd, one someone buys one nowadays is it best to have it rebuilt (since the stock internals are still good) or is an engine that's been sitting around for that long still okay to crank up with little/no issue.

The GTiR cost more $$ then the VG30DETT! lol

I personaly went with the w11 det its a newer model det 2001-up which comes off a automatic all wheel drive station wagon(in japan) so they dont get beat on that much and also comes with the best t25 ball bearing turbo you can get..i figured why get the gti-r knowing that it would defenitly be beat'n on a daily basis so it would come with more wear on it..just common sense to ME....the guy to talk to about geting one of these motors is Andreas MIKO here on the forum i can give you his# if needed just pm me

I'm not really looking for a turbo engine, I was just wondering what people's thoughts about it was. Definitely common sense to get a newer engine though I've bought a few things from Andreas in my day

No matter the year or mileage on a used engine it is always best to at least check the main and rod bearings if not replace them before you run it. Otherwise i would say you have a 50/50 chance of a bearing(s) going out before you would like them to.

I would agree with the w11 statement though. Most gtirs would be beat on much more regularly than an atomatic non sporty car.

its better to replace at least the bearings, but not necessary, its like a lottery, you can get one thats in good shape or one that you bearings fail quickly...
I bought an avenir engine like 3 years ago, never changed anything and started beating on it, of course with good maintenance but never changed any internals apart from cams and its still good...
