Overheating issues
Ok, I just finished a DET swap into my nx2000. I drives pretty good and has alot of power, except after 20-30 min of driving it starts overheating and pouring steam out of the coolant reservoir.
First I changed the thermostat which ended up being fine in the first place, and that didn't help.
Then I thought maybe it was because it only had one fan on the radiator cause the previous owner took one out and it was getting alot of radiant heat from the turbo and mani (which don't have the shielding on them), so I put dual slim fans on it and it still overheated.
I need a new radiator bad cause it already had a small hole that was jb welded over, and a seemed to have melted a new hole right near the lid and this strange pasty black stuff had come out. Not sure if it was melted plastic or what?!... So i'm in the process of finding a better radiator now.
I haven't checked the compression yet to make sure I don't have a blown headgasket, but I did take out all the plugs and there is no water in any of the cylinders. There seems to be no oil mixed in the coolant, and no froshy layer on the oil cap.
So right now i'm not sure if the turbo and mani is just to hot, or maybe have an air pocket on the system or what.
Any ideas?
THanks!

did you bleed the coolant system?

yea this can definitly cause a overheating issue, esp if you are leaking coolant then adding more in without bleeding the system. however if you have a bad radiator it might be pointless because its supposed to be air tight system

very true huh. i might put a bit of jb weld over the whole for now until i get a new one so i can try bleeding it and see if that's the problem.
Thanks for the advise!

Update:
Well I let the engine warm up to half then opened the bleader valve. Decent amount of steam and coolant sprayed out. Then I poured more coolant into the rad and it took probably 1/2 gallon more that it normally does. Did that several time until the coolant level wouldn't drop anymore then took it for a test drive. Couldn't even make it reach half on the temp gauge and it was near 1/4 when just driving without boost.. We'll see how it does tomorrow when it's warm out.
Thanks for the advice guys!

Ok, well it's not overheating, but after driving it for a while when it should be at normal operating temps, it barely moves to the very bottom white line on the gauge for all the way cold, and sometimes it just barely goes past that.
any ideas?
maybe bad thermostat or temp sensor?
I track the coolant fill cap and the coolant tried to boil out like it normally would at operating temps. Would it do that if it was that low on the temp gauge?

sounds like bad thermostat stuck open
