Ehhh Oil pump goes on before head, otherwise possible leakage, or misaligned oil pump gear which is worse.

I'm just saying thats the way I do things, but I'm sure you have figured out a way to do it like that, I just don't have the skills to do that sort of thing.

Ive done it both ways. Never had any leakage from the head by the front cover. And i dont even use silicon like the manual says to use right there.

I just keep the oil pump drive off, put the front cover on then line the oil pump up with the drive gear/spacer and lightly tap it in, back off if necessary or move the pump till its perfect.

You can mess the oil pump up if you hit the spacer too hard and dont have the pump lined up good.

Just be careful when doing it and you will be fine. I try to avoid doing it that way but there has been instances where i had to pull the pump without removing the head.

The pump was machined with the block and slid on without issues.

Well, this time around I didn't have the pump machined. So I'm gonna use sandpaper and squeeze her in there before the head goes on. The biggest problem with doing it that way is interference with the chain guides. I broke one off by accident once when putting the head on. So now I put the head on first, then put the guides and pump on. I'll just wait to torque the head on all the way until the pump is properly mounted. No biggie.

I didn't have mine machined with the block and again I had no issue putting the pump back on. You can get the pump up there and start a couple bolts or use the two ten mm bolts going through the head into the cover and use those to tighten and pull it up tight until the other bolts line up right. I had to do that once the others just slid right on perfect.

thanks, so aside from the head stud holes the headgaskets should all be interchangable.
