will heavier oil allow for easier oil leaks if i already have them?

my oil pressure with penzoil platinum 5w30 at idle warm is around 10psi and all 80mph its around 40 psi

but my senders isnt directly off the block where the stock one is. so it will read a little lower its a little off the block via oil feed

mobil one has went downhill in the past years from what i have heard and seen. A friend of mine has an sti and works at advance. He is an avid royal purple user. But despite my recommendations they had mobil 1 synthetic on sale and he tried some. The same day he changed it he told me that he was getting the worst oil pressure he has ever gotten in his car, and was going to change back to royal purple that night or go with the valvoline synthetic 20w 50.

I couldnt pass up the deal they had on valvoline synpower 20w50 with a k&n oil filter. So far it has proven to be great oil.

Interesting

Was looking in my B13/N14 FSM

Says for SR20DET oil pressure should be more than 14psi at idle and 50-64psi @ 3200rpm.

So slightly under 20psi seems OK, but getting close to 15psi isn't good and anything under 14psi is bad.

I think I'll use these numbers to help me pick an oil weight.

FSM says you should *only* use 5w30 in the winter and you're well under the 14psi recommended. I'd run something heavier next oil change.

arte you using mechanical or electrical oil pressure gauges you could have a bad sending unit or bad ground effecting the readouts of your oil press, thats a possibility. but could also be oil issue alone
