Oil Weight for Summer?
Hey,

When I get the car fully warmed up and boosting, I see my oil pressure drop under 20psi at idle. This seems really low and I'm thinking of running a higher weight oil, but it's hard to find something like 10w-40. It seems you either get 10w-30 or 5w-40 or something like 15w-50 in synthetics. 10w-40 would seem perfect, but none of the bigger companies seem to make this in synthetic. I wonder if 5w-40 would be better or worse in the summer than 10w-30.

What do you guys run in the summer/warmer months?

I use Mobil 1 15w-50, I get it always at Walmarts, 24 bucks for a jug with 5 quarts.

I have been running the valvoline full synthetic 20w 50 and it seems to be working well, much better oil pressure all around over a synthetic 10w30.

where you getting the valvoline at ive heard the higher end valvoline was pretty good i forget the name

i like 3 brands of oil personally the rotella t amsoil and eneos oil all are real goodd the rotella t i got hooked on from coheed it seems to not break down in extreme conditions and has good sheer rate worked pretty well for me seems likke it works well for turbo egines looking at the specs

im about due for a oil change i may go with rotella 15w40 maybe something else

I dont know where you are from, but if you have advance autoparts stores by you they should carry it. If i decide to change i may try the rotella t. they also carry that at advance as well.

valvoline also makes a racing type oil called vr1 full sythetic racing oil. I cant remember off had what weights it comes in.

I have ran the German Castrol in the summer. 0w 30 but acts more like a 40 weight when hot (read that on BITOG). People told me it was gonna seize the motor and all sorts of stuff. Thinking of running that in my Honda but this year I've got Mobil one 10w 30 for the SE-R. Mostly because the 5 qt jug was on sale for $23 at Walmart.

I and almost all my friends with turbo cars run valvoline vr1 race oil in 20w50 and have never had a problem and you can grab it right at advanced auto parts
